Botox and anal fissure fibrillation

Postby Savaici » 13 Jun 2013, 12:17

Is this a finding that identifies resistant chronic anal fissures that respond to botulinum toxin?

Looks like it was a study with some predictive value for patients with chronic fissures who were more (or less) likely to heal with Botox. On testing, patients with chronic fissures who had the presence of anal sphincter fibrillation were more likely to heal with Botox than patients with chronic fissures who did not have anal sphincter fibrillation.

Am I right in thinking that's higher anal resting pressure patients did significantly better than lower resting pressure ones?
If so I hope I buck the rule on that one!!

omb . Actually, this study had more to do with a specific kind of muscle wave found in the sphincter muscle and it was discovered that in people who had this specific kind of muscle wave the Botox was far more effective than in people who didn't have this type of muscle wave. All of the participants in this study had elevated pressures, but the ones who benefited most from Botox were the ones with this anal sphincter fibrillation.
