If you can handle taking the meds, taking valium (diazepam) 3 times a day will also help that sphincter relax. I was taking 5mg. After surgery I was up to 4x a day, now I'm only taking it twice a day.
It really affects some people...makes everything a little too relaxed. I haven't had that problem.
Optimist, I too get that twinging sensation telling me, "Go now!" That's usually that little #1.
I know how you feel Welsh, I don't have a bidet or a sitz, so I'm in the tub. I will set the timer on my cell phone for 10 or 15 minutes. Ding-ding-ding...Yay, I can get out of this thing.

Butt blog update: day 15 (thanks momof7 for the new term) Woke up, had a Movicol and went back to bed. Then I got up to make some wheatabix and added a dash of the raw coconut oil, but before I had a chance to place it in my mouth, someone was knocking at the back door, so I had to run for the loo. Nearly didn't make it.
Image
Had a pretty sharp pain like the pressure was affecting my fissure during the run. Once I started on the loo, the pain subsided and a relieved #6 came out.
Image
There was a slight bit of blood on one of the first stools, but none when wiping. I'm on no real pain now unless I sit straight on it for longer than a minute.
Thanks for all the helpful advice, just started with the coconut oil, having some trouble manoeuvring it around down there. I guess it takes a bit of getting used to.
As gross as the prunes are, I think they help too. I'm making my boyfriend eat one whenever I have one to make up for the fact that he gobbles cookies and crisps in front of me. Mwahahaha. But he's been really supportive other than that.
He's always Asking if I'm on my "batty blog" all the time.
Yes, yes I am. I'm telling my butt friends that I had a good poop today, and they're congratulating me on it. Is that so weird? I don't think so.
Image
I'm not taking any pain relief any more, I don't think I'm in enough pain for that yet. I haven't been so religious with the sitz since the start of this week as I don't have the pain afterwards that I did last week. That booted up the bum feeling doesn't last very long at the moment. I take that as a good sign.
I even ate some chocolate and a coffee yesterday. Things are going well. Back to work on Monday though, two weeks off has been a god send so its going to be difficult.
Still not sure if Botox has kicked in yet. I'll give it another week and if nothing has changed then I guess it has kicked in, but my butt hasn't realised.

Hi Welsh, first of all good luck on going back to work on Monday!
LOL at you making your bf eat prunes, that's just funny. :) But he deserves it for eating all those things you can't have in front of you! My bf does the same thing and it annoys me. He says it's motivation for my butt to get better soon. Lol.
Anyway I'm glad that you're not in so much pain anymore! Honestly when my pain disappeared around day 2-3, I kinda stopped with the sitz baths too. :S My CRS did say at today's appt that if I don't have pain I don't really need to do them, but I kinda want to for the sake of cleanliness and just to help the wounds heal faster. Do sitz baths really help healing? Is it worth sitting there for 15-30 mins if I don't have pain anyway?

Hey torn, there seems to be a lot of females on here with their partners taunting with junk food. I vote a prune forfeit for all those who taunt!
If I'm staying at my boyfriends I won't be sitzing as its too much hassle, but at my house, the bidet is just a butt shuffle away from fresh warm water (despite having the tap dig into my side, it's quite convenient). It's not too sore to wipe properly though. I certainly don't sitz for more than 10 mins now, whereas the first few BMs were soothed by the hot water. I then moved to cold packs to sooth my ache which helped more.

Hi Welsh, love your butt blog lol,
Sounds like your doing better. The botox must have kicked in as you are having no pain :) you dont feel any different from it the pain just stops and as long as your careful not to retear you should be fine.
I had some chocolate too it was yum a curly wurly for me yum. I agree our men are so mean eating in front of us id never get my man to taste a prune lol. I only do a sitz twice a day i still have trouble cleaning up as ive stitches to the left and back its hard to clean around them. I only sit for about 5 mins now.
Take care :)

Glad to hear things are still going well for you. Hope your return to work is okay too. I've got one more week off then I too will be back at work, I'm still not totally pain free thought after bm so I'm not looking forward to having explain why after 6 weeks off sick I'm still not completely recovered!! Really don't feel like I can justify any more time off though & I'm missing my work colleagues & my normal routine, you never know another week might just do it for me, although realistically I feel I've hit a bit of a plateau & whilst things are much better than before surgery, it's still not quite right cos it still hurts abit & hasn't improved much more over the past 2 weeks. Oh the joys of living with a fissure!! Keep posting once you are back at work Welsh, wishing you all the very best xx

Hey thanks OMB & Edel, I am torturing my boyfriend without making him eat prunes, he's pretty amazing anyway, so sympathetic, he'll cook me anything I ask, I also won't go out until I've had a BM, so he'll wait in patiently with me. AND he bought me a pair of Ugg boots to make me feel better.
...But he still gets a prune!
Image
I guess my Botox has kicked in if I'm not having to push while on the loo, it doesn't really feel any different down there, it just feels like the stool moves passed the fissures, sometimes it feels uncomfortable. I guess so long as the stool doesn't have any blood on it then that's a good sign.
Image
Jilly I've heard these things can take months to heal, up to a year even, it's really great that you're in a better place than pre-surgery - That means that its working, but we've both got a long long way to go. Use this next week as best you can, stick to your diet religiously, plan what you're going to do in work for food & water for next week.
I'm going to be worrying about how I'm going to take my Movicol without anyone asking questions...
"Hey what's that stuff?"
"Yes it's a stool softener... and YES I can't risk having a giant poop incase I tear my butt open... oh and excuse me for a minute I need to run to the loo before I poop myself, but thanks for asking"

Butt Blog Update: day 16 - Got woken up early this morning then managed to fall back asleep, when I woke up a few hours later, I laid in bed for a few minutes then had to run to the loo as it was knocking at the back door again!
I made it PHEW!
I also didn't feel any pain just before (like I have done all this week) that was a pleasant surprise. Had a Bristol scale 6 again (why wasn't I doing this months ago?) I am now in a 1/10 on the pain scale, but only when I sit down really.
I had a Movicol with my meal last night around 8pm so do we think that I worked over night? I think my body needs to be awake for a few hours before I need to go. I start work at 7 and wake up at 6, so there's no way I'll be pooping before work. I guess it'll have to be a work thing. Yippee.
:(
I've been reading up about raising your legs when having a BM, and looking into things to buy, but hey presto, my boyfriend made me my very own "Squatty potty" (out of a cardboard box) so I'll be trying that over the next week to see if it relieves my need to push. I even wrote "Squatty Potty" on the side and misspelt squatty. Sheesh! I had one job!!!
I've seen a lot of talk on here about Magnesium citrate and although the stool softeners are working well for me (when nothing interferes) I guess taking a pill of magnesium would be a lot more convenient and subtle. I might give the Movicol a go until I run out, then maybe give this magnesium a try.
Let me get this straight... Magnesium makes your stools soft? Are we talking Bristol 6 soft?
Butt Blog edit update: just had another BM, luckily I'd just got home. Fell out, more like a Bristol #5 which was good. No pain again.
In your face fissures!!!

Hey W. Sounds like you are on a roll :D
Magnesium never softened my stolls enough to avoid the plug. Even if I took a lot. Movicol however, was what worked best for me (and a lot others) but I cant take it cause it makes me sick. Stick to the movicol, and make sure to keep them BMs as bristol 6, then you will see progress!
