Spasms starting up again 4 months post-LIS?!?!

Postby Ceeteefeebs » 29 Aug 2013, 23:10

Hi friends old and new,
Apologies for being absent for so long! I'd been hoping to make a triumphant return to this page as a success story, but now I'm not so sure. I had LIS in late April and, until a few days ago, had been on a very slow but steady upward climb.... I'm talking weeks of very little to no pain. For some inexplicable reason, my spasms have resumed over the past few days- not as severe as pre-LIS (when they felt like broken shards of glass!), but now more like an electrical current that shows up throughout the day for no good reason and then vanishes. I've been a good girl: high fiber, water, Miralax, stool softener, the whole regimen, and there's been no straining or blood/evidence of retear. Is there anyone else in my boat? How worried should I be that my sphincter is regaining its pre-LIS strength and temper? I'm thinking that maybe after a summer of walking and fair amounts of activity, the past week of photo editing in a chair has set me back. I've been using a memory foam cushion for the tush- what else can I do to baby my bum? Those with office jobs: how are you enduring this? What do you do to get through the day and promote healing? I'm afraid I'll never be fit for office work again. I'm just not feeling so swell. :(

Also: I'd been thinking of getting a kneeling chair, but another thread on this forum said they're a "no no." Anyone else have experience with those?

I'm sorry you have had a set back ceeteefeebs Image
I would probably just keep getting up to stretch your legs throughout a working day... Just make out you have a bad back or something. Shifting from one cheek to the other seems to help too.
I hope things improve soon

Hey OMB! How have you been?!
I've been doing the cheek shuffle, and that seems to get me through the day. But I am starting to get back and side pain from it. Sometimes we just can't win! :/

I've been thinking about setting an alarm to go off every 30 mins to prompt me to get up, stretch, walk around a bit.
Sitting doesn't hurt for me, but I worry that by sitting, we compress the anus preventing healthy healing blood flow. I've been reading about how that area (the position where most of us have fissures) is "ischaemic" meaning, blood supply is low there.
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.
Status - Healed!

That's an excellent idea re: the alarm! I'm going to have to start doing that. It seems like when I take a vacation or time off from work, I heal leaps and bounds. I don't have a particularly stressful job, so sitting has got to be the culprit behind my setbacks. What sort of stretches have been helpful for you? Or is it just the act of getting up and walking that helps?

Oh, I just mean that one where you raise your arms and arch your back and strrrrrreeeetttttch :D
Though I'm sure there are better stretches out there!
