Bleed after closing bowels

Postby Ouchie81 » 26 Nov 2013, 05:20

Hello

I'm new here, I've been suffering issues with my bowels/bum for years. It's all getting worse and getting me down and I was hoping to get some advice

I have been bleeding from my bowels on and off for about 5 years. Gets worse each year till today where it not only bleeds when my bowels are open but also when closed. Bright red blood. It also stings a bit. I think I have internal hemarroids and a few fissures. I often feel a pressure down there and incomplete evacuation after BM.

I have a very embarrassing habit too I push on my perineum and on either side of my anus to get the last bit out :-(. I have never admitted to this, I am so embarrassed and feel like a freak.

Does anyone else do this? Does anyone else have bleeding when bowels are closed?

Thank you so much

Hi Ouchie,
I'm sorry you have had this problem for so long!
Please don't be embarrassed about anything. Everybody here knows what it's like to have problems with pooping, and most people have an embarrassing story to tell.

So, my first and most important question is - have you seen a doctor or colorectal surgeon? What you describe doesn't really sound like a fissure, because you don't mention a lot of pain. Blood in the stools can mean a lot of things, and you really really want to get it checked out.

Good luck!
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.
Status - Healed!

Hi Ouchie81

Thanks for being brave and taking the effort to join. Who wants to talk about
these issues right. But here, this is all we talk about and we're not ashamed to do it. :D

As for your habit of pushing with your hands around your bum, yes I do it too when
I'm constipated. Actually these methods are discussed here and they work, keep it up.

Better still finding ways to avoid those hard bm's is your priority now. More water,
fiber (especially insoluble) exercise, and stool softeners are just a few ways to accomplish this.

Yeah as Scientist says, you really need a diagnosis as you may have fissures or hemmy's
or something like IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) as experts say the feeling of incomplete
evacuation is a classic symptom. So lets hope we can at least rule this and other similar
ailments out.

Hi Ouchie,
As everyone says please go and see your GP because you just want to get it all sorted out and medically treated. Please don't be embarrassed because so may people have these issues and even though you feel alone, you really aren't!
It's just best you do it as soon as possible because you really don't want things to get any worse and you shouldn't have to be suffering this stuff every day.
All the very best to you in getting your bottom well again :)

Thank you so much for replying.

I have been to the GP several times and get a different diagnosis each time. Haemorrhoids, fissures, fistula, IBS etc etc. I wonder how you misdiagnose a fistula, I don't have a hole or track in my bottom. I also don't know why they don't investigate properly. I feel ignored and kicked out the door.

I am certain I do have IBS just not sure what the cause of my bleeding is. There is definitely intermittent pain when I open my bowels. It can range from a 2/10 to 10/10. It's a sharp shooting pain. I take stool softness and mGnesium to keep my stool soft and even though it is soft I still use the technique previously mentioned at the end to get that last bit out that I know is there :-(. I hate myself for such embarrassing things

Ouchie -
Are you in the UK because if you get to a GP, you can ask for referral to a Colon & Rectal Surgeon. They are the specialists in this field and GPs are not (unless you are extremely lucky to find one!) You could continue to go from GP to GP being told different things for a long time, but you need to request a CRS consultation.
Don't let these GPs keep fobbing you off - You obviously have some issues that need a proper diagnosis and treatment & it's been going on for far too long.
It's more than likely you have a fissure or an internal hem(s) that are causing some of the bleeding issues but until you know what, you don't know what to do to make it better.
IBS doesn't help the process because you're either having hard, difficult stools or diahrroea or fluctuating between them both!......so pay really careful attention to what you eat (google this site for so many great ideas & links)
Make sure you drink loads of water & fluids so much that you are peeing more than usual and cut out any form of junk/ white processed foods/ red meats to help with your digestion.
Stop stressing about your pushing technique because a lot of people find this very helpful, so you are NOT alone doing this!! In fact, next time you go for a BM, just imagine another 500 people all over the world that might be doing the very same thing as you at the same time and then it makes it seem normal!!
Just keep persisting until you find a CRS who will be able to properly help you!! & wishing you all the very best :)

Dear Ouchie, it's terrible that you feel ignored and misdiagnosed by your GP. It sounds as though you need to see a real gastroenterologist or colorectal specialist.
Please don't hate yourself - your method for fully evacuating your bowels sounds very sensible, and it works, so why feel bad? Some people here do something similar - they use their fingers to support the anus while they poo, to avoid tearing the fissure. I'm one of those people, and I find that it also helps in complete evacuation. There is even a special toilet seat that does the same thing. So it's not unusual, and not at all a dirty thing to do.
I see that ETO has also answered you, so I'll sign off here for now.
You're in the right place to get help!

Thank you, I might try and call the dr today. I just feel so dejected about it. I had a baby 9 weeks ago too which ended in an emergency c section, it feels like it has made all my tummy and bum issues so much worse. I worry that I push so much and hard around my anus when I go that maybe it is this action causing the fissure. I just don't know. I'm scared dr will ignore me again

I live in Australia.

Well I have an appointment in 2.5 hours with the dr... I'm going to ask for a referral to a gastroenterologist. I hope I get some help and it's nothing serious :-(
