A pressure test is 'anal manometry' and this is where they insert a deflated balloon and then inflate it to various levels of pressure. It measures your sensations as well as the tone of your internal anal sphincter (resting pressure). This is a good test if a Doctor has any uncertainty about whether LIS may make you incontinent or not. Does your CRS have any reason to believe you may (ie., have you had children? Do you not have spasms? Is your fissure not at 6'oclock?). This is definitely normal practice before a second LIS.

Thanks for getting back to me, i am a male and never has lis before, i thought it was a bit strange i was having the pressure test before my first lis unless the crs is being over precautious ? Been waiting 2 months for the test now even though i went private and thought it was strange reading through the stories on forum noone else seems to have had one done first time round

Where do you live? I have heard that LIS is more readily done in some locations than others.

I have heard on here that LIS is not commonly done in the UK. So perhaps your CRS is just trying to be extra careful as incontinence is a risk with LIS.

I am in the uk and I had to have pressure tests done before any of my surgeries. Over here our CRSs are very cautious and don't take LIS lightly.
The test is ok..... A little embarrassing... But the technicians are very good at making you feel at ease. It didn't make me worse having the pressure test, so don't worry.

I'm still waiting for more investigations.... Mine is a case of nerve damage now. I have an appointment with a dr Baranowski in London on the 13 th July.... I'm really hoping there is something that can be done to help. Thanks for asking! X

Don't worry about the test. Inform them you have an active fissure and they will be extra gentle.
