Hi everyone,

I'm so glad I found this site! I've been through a lot recently with mis-management of my issue (including being admitted for surgery by two surgeons and the consultant in the morning claiming I just had a skin tag). Anyway I had my seton stitch inserted on Friday as an urgent surgery due to a lot of bleeding and today my pain has drastically increased. I can't get comfortable to sleep, there is yellowy brown stuff leaking from my anus (sorry if it's tmi) and the pain is really sharp. The consultant who came round on Saturday morning said that I could be back to work Monday /Tuesday but there's no way I could be back at work in 4 hours time as I teach children with special needs and I can barely sit!

My question is if this is normal? How long will this feeling last? Does anyone have any tips?

Tia -- I dont have direct experience with your issue -- my rule of thumb is that if I believe there may be an infection or if I feel increased levels of continuous pain I consult a Dr. -- I would encourage you to see your specialist asap and have them take a look and give you feedback.

Hi Canadabum,

Thank you so much for your reply... I phoned my GP, she phoned the hospital and got them to see me this morning. They think it's may be a fissure but when they examined me (with a finger right round the seton that caused more pain) they couldn't see or feel anything so gave me some local anaesthetic gel to apply once a day.

I figured night time was best so just applied it and it was a learning curve. I have learned that in future I should lay down on plastic sheets to apply it as it went in one way and came straight out the other. Thankfully it just went onto my clothes on the bathroom floor. It has worked though and think I'll actually manage to sleep tonight as I can't feel it so much. Fingers crossed.
