suturing of fissure

Postby Guest » 18 Jul 2007, 21:38

I googled "proctosite" and watched the video of sphincter surgery.
The doctor sewed the incision closed, of course, so I'm wondering why it's never suggested to sew the fissure closed. They're both openings in the same area with the same potential for infection.
Anyone know?

I am not sure, but I did ask my CRS about this but I can't recall what she said at the time. Too much pain I think.
If I remember correctly she said that stitching could trap bacteria into the wound making it harder to heal. Does that sound right, everyone?

That sounds like something my dr said. with the tear being caused by poo and all, there is a high risk of infection. Also, dr won't stitch any cut that has been open for about 12hrs or more (can't remember the xact time frame but it's something like that). Most of us have had our fissures for far longer than that.
