Hello.....

Postby DinoDevine » 27 Mar 2010, 12:32

Hello,
My name is Jason - I am 19 Years Old and I live in the East of England.
I have been suffering from repeat Anal Fissures since January 2009.
I have been under the surgical knife twice in 2009 to try and correct the problem with varying success.
The original problem started off as Blood on the Toilet Paper & this non stop pain from the area.
The problem then spiraled on and got worse. Upon seeing my GP - I was given these lotions to apply which had little effect.
I was also recommended to try and add more Fibre to my Diet so, I have been taking Fibregel ever since. This has helped sometimes but has often not.
As this seemed to be getting nowhere, In June I was referred to a Specialist who upon Examination, recommended that I have the Operation to remove the Tears and Allow the area to heal.
So, In Late July, I underwent the operation in which they removed 6 Fissures. After 6 Weeks recovery time, Things had improved a little but, I was still in pain all the time and I was still bleeding during and after Bowel Movements.
So in September, after seeing my GP - I was referred back to the Specialist who decided to try the operation again.
In November I underwent the same operation again. This time they removed 2 Anal Fissures and I was told to come back in 6 weeks time to see how things were.
Things had improved a little but not a lot. So in December I went back for the follow up appointment and upon telling the Specialist how things were, I was told to give it 3 months to fully heal.
Well, 3 months later here I am and I am still bleeding (Though not as much) and Still in pain (Though not as much) and I decided that it had been going on long enough so...I went back to my GP who referred me back to the Specialist who I have an appointment with this Monday.
My only question is, Where Do I Go from here? Is there anything that can be done?
I am really out of patience and it has been going on too long.
I have been unable to attend college since January 2009 as it has been too painful and embrassing to attend.
Anyway,
Thank you all for reading.
Jason

Hello Jason and welcome, I just joined this site yesterday myself. I dont have the answers for you I have been dealing with fissures for 15 yrs now. I will not have any surgery because everything I have read shows it does not work in the long run and I refuse to put myself through anymore unnecessary stress with these things. What seems to work for one does not work for another but look around this site there are some great people so I am sure you will find something useful tips to try. It seems because of where these little suckers live that it is almost impossible to get rid of them short of never having a BM again! Image Be well...Cheryl

Welcome to the board Jason,
Sounds like you've been through the mill with fissures and surgery, sorry to hear that nothing has solved your a$$ issue, I'm unsure just how many times LIS or fissurectomy can be performed? Maybe some other board members will help you out.
Good luck

Hi Jason,
Welcome. You're much tooo young to be having to go through these ordeals with an AF. I'm thinking you have not yet had LIS. Maybe that would help or Botox?? Maybe you'll post something from the UK so we can hear the very cool British accent (such as on the thread "Just for Fun). My friend's husband is from the UK--near Chesterfield, but he lives in the US now with my friend. I met his mum when she was here visiting some time ago, and she has a very think British accent. UPDATE!

Postby DinoDevine » 29 Mar 2010, 06:51

Hello :)
Well today was the day of reckoning....here is how it went....
I've seen the specialist today. He examined the area and could see I was in a lot of pain. After some questions and a further examination, He has informed me that at least 2 Anal Fissures have returned.
He has given me 2 courses of action.
Option 1: Operation involving Botox Insertion - A combined surgical and pharmacological treatment, administered by colorectal surgeons, is direct injection of Botulinum toxin (Botox) into the anal sphincter to relax it. This treatment was first investigated in 1993. Combination of medical therapies may offer up to 98% cure rates.
Option 2: 3 Month Use of Diltiazem Cream applied twice daily to the area internally.
He recommended that I take and try option 2 for 6 Weeks. If it fails to solve this problem, to attend the follow up booked for 8 Weeks Time. The course of action would then be Option 1.
He has advised that if Option 1 fails after Option 2, that there is nothing more that can be done. I will have to live with it.
I decided to go for Option 2 for the moment. See how that progresses and see if it helps.
If not, In 8 Weeks Time I will ask for Option 1 and that will be my last shot at freedom from this :(
