LIS Recovery

Postby Amychristine » 20 Feb 2022, 21:31

So I had my LIS November 15th 2021. Healing has been pretty good had some pain around 8 weeks after trying to just take magnesium instead of restorlax one evening. I called my surgeon and they said it was still early and to keep taking restorlax for a few more weeks. I’ts been around 13 weeks now and I’m feeling super discouraged today because I had a little bit of pain at the start of my bowel movement. I had no pain after maybe a slight itch. Had a sitz bath then looked in the mirror the best I could and I think I can see a small opening where the tear was. It looks a little red but it’s strange I had no blood on the toilet paper or in the bowl. I’m worried I may have opened up that tear slightly and feeling super frustrated. I have a couple of small external hemmoroids that come and go but to me this looks like it’s the tear but hard to tell. Has this happened to anyone around this time? I’ve read a lot on these forums and I know some people heal quickly and others can take longer. This has me wondering if the surgery will work for me or maybe I just need to be extra careful and give it more time? I’m going to call the surgeons office this week and see what they say. Has anyone had this happen but fully healed later on?

Hello there, I am 5 weeks post op from LIS. Do you feel like you are having pain from the fissure or the incision? My current situation is I still feel the fissure, not alot but it's still there, I am also a little sore from my incision. I am worried I may have been over working myself and should've been taking it easier. All I can do is lay in bed all day and I won't feel pain, once I start walking/ sitting/standing to long the pain from the incision starts to hurt. How are you feeling now?

Hi there, I don’t remember feeling incision pain too bad around then but I think it was more the first couple of weeks. Everyone’s so different. I think my pain was from the fissure because my surgeon said it was anterior and that’s what I could see in the mirror. From my understanding I think the incision would be healed by now. Don’t they cut on the side of the muscle with an LIS? I have been good again, my dr put me on a prescription cream to help healing incase I retore. She said to do it for 8 weeks and if I have any pain during or after to call. She didn’t say what we would do after that if this doesn’t work. I’m guessing another surgery but really hope it doesn’t come to that point. Have you been taking baths to help with pain? I try and take one every day. I was taking 2-3 right after surgery to help healing.

That's good you are feeling good again and that she gave you a cream. With the cream and the 8 weeks should be enough time for the pain to go away. I did go back to my surgeon today for a post op and he told me my incision did reopen a little but that it should heal back up. I have been taking 3-4 baths every day since my surgery, but I was using very hot water (I know I shouldn't have but I just was so desperate to heal) and I think that was also hurting my incision.

I had quite a few set backs during my recovery. I had surgery in October 2019 and I wasn't fully healed until April 2020. I went through at least two or three instances where I felt I had retorn. I even went in to see CRS on one of them and it was fine. Just the "normal" ups and downs of healing from LIS my surgeon would say. I promise you it does eventually get better. I check in on this board every once in a while so I can let someone who is struggling know that you will eventually be healed. Just be patient with your body. LIS was one of the best things I ever did even though I was one of the longest healers.

Thanks yes I am happy that it’s helping I think it’s up to me to try and eat carefully not too much fiber l and no coffee cuz I believe that irritated it. Thissucks08 that’s good that you got on the baths to help heal I think the heat really helps blood flow, how have you been feeling latley? Tight80 Thank you that makes me feel better hearing that it did take a bit to heal. I do feel as though the surgery has helped relax the area I just need to be patient and give it time like you say.

How have you been feeling lately? I have little improvement and I mean little. Fissure is still there, and I am still having pain from the incision. I went to another colorectal specialist because mine is super booked and won't see me. This new one said my wound is still healing and can take up to 3-4 months. Right now I am very miserable physically and mentally and am wishing I never did this surgery. I go back to my old colorectal surgeon next week.

Hey I’ve been ok lately actually. I am taking a little magnesium calm with restorlax still and taking my cream I think I have another month left. If I have pain again I will go see the surgeon or see if she wants to cut a little more with a LIS. I’m still super worried it didn’t work but crossing fingers it will. How long has it been since you had your surgery now? I didn’t think the incision took that long to heal. I wonder if you started using a cream to speed healing if it would help you too. I’m on diltiazrm with lidocaine in it.

That's good news you found something that has helped you. It has been 8 weeks since my surgery. I also did not think it took this long to heal from the incision, it's starting to worry me. I asked the medical assistant (since the DR had already left) if there was any type of cream or something I can use to speed up the process and was told "no, nothing will make you heal faster, your body has to do this" but then the other CRS I just recently saw told me I could use my old niphedipine cream? I go back to my CRS in one week and I am going to ask again if there is anything they can prescribe me because I am DESPERATE.

If I told you that the more you stress about this the longer it will take to heal, would that make sense? Stress and tension were pretty much led to my rectal issues. Pain I could live with, but my body couldn't heal itself under those conditions. For example, I left my old job in 2016 and a chronic muscle spasm issue (levator ani I believe) magically went away within a week on it's own! When you say you are desperate (and I know you are!) I can almost see you thinking about it non-stop. It's been two months and you expected this to be over but now you are still dealing with it so I get it. That being said, do your best and maybe try some of the suggestions we've given you that might help a little.
Fissure June 2014 - Oct 2020
Botox, skin tag removed - Feb 2015
Levator Ani Sep 2014 - Feb 2016 (left job, cured!)
LIS, skin tags removed - Oct 2020
Fissure 100% healed - Nov 2020
Still healed as of March 2024
