Hi.
I am fed up and need to vent to someone. I have suffered with a fissure for approx 2.5 years. Last June After being on waiting list for an operation for some time for a fissure, I went private and received Botox. It didn't clear up the problem and so had an operation last November. The aim was to have an investigation, scrape away the tear and have more Botox. The investigation showed a large 5cm polyp which had to be removed separately so the surgeon just injected Botox and left tear alone.
I then had to have 3 colonoscopies with nhs whilst they decided how to remove the polyp without full surgery.
I finally had a complicated colonoscopy in February to remove the polyp which took about an hour and was agony.
The fissure was aggravated again but I just kept on going hoping that was it. It turns out the polyp was precancerous so I am supposed to have another colonoscopy to make sure it has all gone.
Easter time I had trouble going to toilet and unbearable pain. I went back to surgeon who diagnosed a fistula as well as fissure.
So 9 weeks ago I had surgery again. He scraped away the tear, opened the fistula, removed another polyp and a pile. Then injected Botox which I'm not sure has worked as well this time.
Recovery has been very slow but steady. At the 6 week check the doctor examined me causing bleeding and real pain going to the toilet again. Coupled with having to sit in a hard chair for hours the following day I am in pain again.
When I had trouble with the fistula I decided to restrict my food intake under the assumption that the less food that goes in the less that comes out. I think it has worked but now whenever I try to eat more normally my stomach rebels and I end up with pain and or upset stomach causing more pain going to toilet. I take movicol but struggle to get the quantity right. Some days my stools are too loose and other sluggish.
The doctor did tell me it was healing well and would expect to take 3 months to heal. He said there was a new tear from the surgery so may need more Botox but the fistula shouldn't come back.
Sorry this is so long but I needed to be heard and maybe some sympathy. I'm fed up with it. I'm sure it will heal but I just want to be 'normal' again.
Thanks for reading. X
