I've had an anal fissure for about 2 years, and just found out about it a few weeks ago. My previous doctors checked it out and said it was just a hemorrhoid (which I also have, right next to it), and gave me some creams that didn't help and had me change my diet to jello, chicken broth, and applesauce for a few weeks. It seemed to go away after the first couple weeks on that diet, but as soon as I started phasing in regular foods, it came right back. I went to see a butt specialist and he says it's a fissure and that it needs surgery to be fixed.
He didn't really tell me anything about what he would be doing for it, but his website says they do LIS, so I presume it's that. I had a lot of questions I wanted to ask him, but I get really nervous in those kinds of situations and I couldn't think clearly or get the words out.
I'm terrified. I already have more pain than I know how to deal with. He's going to be fixing a tear by tearing the thing the tear is in? From what I've been reading, it sounds like this is unlikely to help and more likely to ruin my life even further, leaving me with not only even more pain, but the inability to control my poos.
Has anyone had this done and actually gotten better? I feel like my life is basically over now, and it's all just ass pain for the rest of my days. Nothing to look forward to. Be straight with me, how bad is this going to be?
Like most of the time, when I poop, it comes out to a certain point, but then to make it drop off, I have to pinch my sphincter shut a bit to kind of break the sausage off and let it fall. How am I going to do that when my sphincter has been cut loose? Am I going to have to stand up and kind of manually break off each turd from now on? This is terrible!
I really don't know what to do.
