Thanks Hope! Yea I'm a huge fan of a truck driver's stop restaurants too.. The gravy, fries, onion rings etc. And obviously the breakfast!
Turkey bacon?!? :O wow! I was actually going to try some of those slices on a pizza the other day but the pack I had expired a month ago when I was a couple weeks into the pains and was scared as heck. I was at work a few days after the pains had started and had the "lillydale" brand turkey bacon fried with scrambled eggs as I usually do. It really caused a lot of pain but hey, anything I ate did; even a salad!
It would be great if I could start making turkey bacon and eggs on whole wheat bread sandwiches. What do you think of that Hope? Would it be too dangerous? I'm thinking of even slicing up a sweet potatoe, putting it in the oven, and adding that to the sandwich too, a true truck driver's sandwich post op sandwich lol
What have you been up to Hope, and how have you been? Have you been going for more walks? How is the fistula healing? Mine seems okay, but when I do more work walking or working out or excersizing, more pus comes out, although blood has been absent for a few days now.

Ooooh yeah! That sandwich sounds great! The sweet potatoes are an excellent idea :D I used to work at a truck stop and learned how to make the best greasy-spoon breakfasts. Who would have thought one day I'd make "heart-healthy" trucker breakfasts! I tried the turkey bacon last week and had no difficulties, so it may be safe for you now too. I started with one slice, though, just to test things, and then a few days later I had three slices with my scrambled eggs and whole-wheat toast with no problem. Next time I'm adding sweet potatoes!

I'm doing quite well now. I'm catching up on my work, cleaning up around the house, and going for nice walks that get a bit longer every day. The agoraphobia is diminishing. I've been off the anxiety meds for a while now, and I'm just taking the depression meds daily, and mild OTC sleeping pills at night when I need them. I definitely feel like I'm getting back to my old self again. Image (Well ... hopefully improved after this experience!)

My fistula wound now just looks like a ditch, and I can tell that it's healing. It bleeds a bit sometimes, after a large BM (I can now produce trucker BMs!). There's just a bit of blood on the TP. And it'll bleed a bit when I stretch it. It's still a bit tender, but not painful.

It's good that your wound is draining. My surgeon said pus draining is good, since it has to come out. I'm lucky that I can work from home, so I was able to stretch the wound frequently during the day to drain the pus. Up until about 10 days ago, pus would come out when I stretched the wound. Now when I stretch it, there's no pus, just a bit of blood.

It sounds like you’re doing great :D I’m planning to go back to my workouts soon too. I don’t do heavy weights – nothing like what you do. But I do some light lifting (it’s good for bone density and that matters to us older gals!). I’m pissed that I lost all my muscle tone. Now you’ve inspired me to get back to it!

What have you been up to? Are you enjoying the last month of summer?

Hey hopetoheal Image
Sorry about the m.i.a., but my life has been super busy as soon as i was able to ALMOST fully perform my normal physical activity (work, friends, excersizing, etc). Today was the first day i didn't do much all day so i thought i'd update myself on the situations here :)
For me, i had my 2nd follow up since the fistula op. The doc ONCE AGAIN told me i'm still not stretching enough. He actually told me to stick my finger in while cleaning it, which is very hard to do, but it helps with the stretching.
I don't feel like i'll be fully 100% back to normal healed this year. But i feel like my life is soaring right now as i'm doing everything i used to be able to do except eat greasy re meat, fried foods, and i don't stress myself at the gym as much as before this all happened.
Hopetoheal, your omelettes are a life saver to me.. I have four eggs and jam pack it with vegetables everymorning with whole wheat bread and a bowl of fibre 1 cereal. Half of the week for lunch i'm eating the whole wheat pizza, and for dinner chicken soup. The other half of the week for lunch and dinner is chicken thighs/salmon with whole wheat rice/sweet potatoes with a truck load of steamed broccoli. Here and there if i don't have the time to make these meals i'll go to subway or something of the sort and get a whole wheat chicken sub smashed with veggies.
Veggies are like my new love. I never used to eat veggies at all as i was too picky my whole life but now i take interest in the produce section unlike before lol.
I haven't been an angel though. I smoke a pack of cigarrettes about every 3 days. I work out pretty hard still ( i'm gaining muscle and getting bigger in size). And i went to a club and had two beers, the first i've had in 3 months, but my mistake was not following up withenough water and not doing that soon enough. 2 bowel movements later (a day and a half later, probably when thw alchohol totally digested) my stools were painted with straight red stripes, and there was a good amount of blood on the toilet paper.
How have you been hopetoheal? It's good that you're able to get off some of thos meds, i bet if you got off them all your bm's would be even better! Image
Do you have any new meal ideas? Any scary or funny stories for me? Or questions?

Hey Adam! Good to hear from you! It sounds like you are doing really well, even though you're not quite 100%. It's great that you can get back to almost a normal life, but it sounds like you've been insanely busy! :D
I was quite unhappy when my doc told me I had to yank my butt wound open so much. That just went against every instinct of self-preservation! I found it difficult because my butt would close up tight in self-defense and it was so difficult accessing the wound. Image
It sounds like you are eating very well. Everything you're having sounds really yummy! I eat tons of broccoli and salmon too. I'm so glad the omelettes worked for you. :D They really are the perfect food - protein, veggies and dairy, if you want it. One trick I learned recently is that you can cut the amount of milk you mix in by half if you put some water into the mix too. A bit of water also seems to make the eggs fluffier. Image
Your pizza is awesome!!!! I tried it a while ago and will make some more this week. Wow - it's nice to have tasty food again. I've been making lots of dishes with brown rice. I heap all kinds of veggies and even chicken onto brown rice, like a stir-fry, but without any oil. I steam the veggies and grill the chicken first before tossing them in a skillet for a quick simmer with a sauce. That way nothing is actually fried, but you can still get the flavour of the sauce into the veggies and chicken. That makes for a good meal and nice BMs for me.
I'm so sorry your experiment with beer didn't work out so well. :( I haven't had the courage to try any alcohol yet. You're very brave! You're probably right that you needed to drink more water with it. Are you taking any stool softeners? Maybe a beer with a Miralax chaser would work out? I wonder if there are any cocktails that would taste good, like maybe a miralax screwdriver? Image
The blood can be very discouraging! I bleed a wee bit with every BM, and have for about two months now. I can see where the blood is coming from - the ditch-like wound in my ass is healing slowly, but is not quite completely healed over yet. I had my follow-up on Aug 31st and my doc didn't seem too worried. He inspected everything quite closely and even gave me the ole finger-probe inspection and said everything looks and feels good and very close to healed. He did say that if I am still bleeding three months from now, he's going to stick a scope up my ass to check things out. Image That's one helluva an incentive to heal!!!
Otherwise, I'm doing quite well these days (KOW!). I'm almost back to normal activity levels. My energy is still lower than it used to be and I still have to get some muscle tone, now that my weight is back to my pre-fissure normal range Image After visiting so many doctors and consulting with GI specialists, all it took to gain weight was a visit from my mother, who stuffed me with cinnamon rolls. :D (I didn't mention that to my GI).
So when was your last follow up? Will you be getting another one? I'm so glad you are able to work out. I want to start doing more of that too - did you have any problems lifting weights? I was thinking I should start with light bicep curls just sitting down. I worry about how squats might affect the butt. Do you have any advice?
One pack of cigarettes every three days isn't too bad! You're doing better than me these days. I've been smoking about a pack every two days, but I'm working on getting the anxiety under control, so I hope to be back down to a pack a week soon.
Sorry I don't have any funny stories right now - my life has been pretty routine. But I am really glad that I'm now able to go out in the world without having anxiety attacks. :) I'm feeling much more human now. All I have to do is get rid of the cinnamon roll belly I developed. Image
I'm so happy you are doing well! Image

oh the muffin top!!! Image Yep. I know what that's like now! My husband pats me on the belly and asks me when I'm going to give birth to a cinnamon roll. Image I'm very lucky that chocolate still constipates me a bit, otherwise I'd be as big as a house right now! It's like my body is trying to make up for the year of not eating. I can't go past a Timmy's without drooling on myself! (Oh yeah - Timmy's is Tim Horton's - us Canadians LOVE our Timmy's :D oh man! the donuts! and the Timbits! drooooool!)
