Hi I was wondering if I can ask how painful your first bowel movement after surgery was? I am terrified. I have my surgery on Thursday and I’m expecting the absolute worst.

2 weeks post LIS and fistulotomy - Hi all, biggest news has been my ability to ditch the pampers and move back into big boy underwear. My leakage was probably the worse during the first 5 days and around day 10/11 it stopped, thankfully.

My bms are getting back to normal. I still have very slight stinging during my first bm but no lasting pain like before during the height of my fissure episode. I still have some minimal soreness in the surgery area but I have been able to get back to jogging lightly. Im able to do about 2.5 miles per day.

I have started a new job that requires me to come into the office 3 days per week. So far no problems sitting for extended periods but I was a bit more sore than usual yesterday after my first day. But today is okay.

I have my check up on the 21st. Im hoping the doctor sees improvement because I’m feeling pretty good.

Overall, I am glad I did the surgery and honestly my life would have remained hell if I had not done it because of my fistula and extreme spasms.

Everyone please take care and I will be around and will post again after my check up.

Best wishes!

Good to hear. Donut pillow helps me at work. Sittng is too painful otherwise.. On my breaks I lay down on a yoga mat in my office with a pillow.

I heard donut pillows are bad for the butt, can lead to maybe hemorrhoids. I think my discharge instructions also said donut pillows are a no no. The laying down part is probably a good idea!! Unfortunately we have an open floor plan here and no office for me. But I’m trying to be cognizant of how long I spend sitting and standing.

But thanks! Good to hear from you. I have saw you posted in another group about a hard butt cheek. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced that. Is it painful? Maybe a glut muscle issue?

My gastro told me to use the donut, but to only sit in 15 to 20 minute intervals.I honestly can't work without t because the chairs at work are too hard. I've had no problems with it so far. When it comes to fissures there seems to be disagreements on everything. I rotate between standing, sitting, and laying down while at work. I also have FMLA restrictions and my employer is required by law to let me leave vmy desk move around every 20 minutes

I can sit on a sofa at home without the donut.. I sat on a donut in the CS office and he didn't mention anything about it during our discussion so I'm assuming it's fine, at least for now.

The hard butt is the entire cheek tightens up but massaging with my hand seems to help a bit. It's something that comes and goes. It will go away if I exercise or move around. I wondered if anyone else felt the same.

You may need to explore and find a hidey hole where you can lay down. I was contemplating laying down in a closet before I got the office.

My first CRS gave me Botox. Since I also had a spasm issue at the same time, I didn't get relief. By the time I saw the other CRS five years later, he said Botox was an option but I would likely be where I was at that moment nine months later. He calmly said, get the LIS and get on with your life. And that is exactly what I did. The LIS literally ended my nightmare of 6+ years. It's been what, 21 months since then of being normal again? No pain when I have a BM! Priceless! Having endured the endless creams, ointments, nitro, sitz baths, Niphedipine, Ditalzem, golf ball sensation when I sat, bleeding, witch hazel, stool softeners, suppositories, hydrocortisone, etc. - ALL OF THAT IS OVER with one LIS that was very easy to recover from.
Fissure June 2014 - Oct 2020
Botox, skin tag removed - Feb 2015
Levator Ani Sep 2014 - Feb 2016 (left job, cured!)
LIS, skin tags removed - Oct 2020
Fissure 100% healed - Nov 2020
Still healed as of April 2024

6 years? Darn it's been 4 months for me. There's no way I could do this for 6 years. For me the spasms have mostly dissipated. The pain is mostly during and after movements and sitting but I don't really spasm anymore. I don't feel much pain standing or walking. I'm hoping the botox will help me get over the final hump. If not the CS said he's ready to do LIS whenever I want.
