Ouch.
Take it easy. Take the pain meds when necessary.

It does seem weird. I was told that there was nothing they could do for me in the hospital anyway, so I'd be more comfortable at home, so I guess I'm fine with it. It is nicer lying in my own bed and using my own bathroom I'm sure. I'm just laying around waiting for my follow-up next friday.

Yes, it is my understanding it is not uncommon practice to send rectal surgery patients home as soon as possible and to not keep them at all if possible because they don't want to get them too "off their regular schedule" especially after manipulation of the rectal area. Some people find it hard to relax enough in a hospital setting to keep close to normal routine. Also because they are able to eat and drink and don't require any nursing care except pain management and wound care and that can usually be done at home for most cases. I think that they have found that most patients are more comfortable dealing with this in the privacy of their own home and tend to do better at home. At least that is what I have been told by nurses. Glad to know you are able to keep the pain under control. I do remember my hemorrhoidectomy and it was quite a painful recovery so my heart goes out to you. Not looking forward to have to go through that again but if it gives me back my life I am going to try. Have you had the first BM yet? Did you have packing and has that come out? Are you having to soak or did they recommend not soaking? Just very interested in how you are doing but if you are not up to questions no problem! Thinking of you everyday!

I had a small BM yesterday, and a more normal one this morning. I was blessed that they were pretty easy and soft. If there was packing, it's long gone, but I'm not sure there was any this time. I'm doing baths a few times a day to keep it clean. Thanks for checking in.

Nothing really new to report. Still pretty painful. I was blessed with another perfect BM yesterday. Today's poop was a little bigger and took the slightest nudge to get started, but wasn't too bad either. I'm laying on my back or side all day which is getting old too. I'm nearly 4 days post/op, so I've got about a week to my follow-up.

Are you taking a stool softener?

Did your donor sites get stitched or left open? What instructions were you given post op??

Yep. Just 2 colace in the evenings. I honestly can't tell if it makes much of a difference, but I'll stick with it for a while. My donor sites were stitched up, and I can certainly feel the stitches stinging all though out of my butt. My CRS wasn't heavy with the post/op directions this time, because he knows I am kind of a seasoned pro at this point. I have been taking baths and cleaning off with the shower head, lying on my belly, and that's about it. I'm just trying to pass the time till my follow-up.
