Lars,
Please PM me or post about how the mamometry test goes for you if you have it as I might be having that done, but I don't want to further aggrevate my butt area at this time. Let us know when you are having the test, so we can send you good vibs/prayers. Sounds like you are having spasms to me, but I am far from an expert and much less knowledgeable than many of the other board members.
All the best,
Cheryl

I am so sorry that you are still in pain : (. I never heard of anybody having spasms all the time without having a fissure - but I might be wrong. Last time I checked the spasms usually are associated with very deep fissures that go into the muscle. Spasms prevent fissures
from healing so it is a vicious cycle that has to be broken.
Good luck Lars - I admire your patience - I decided to have LIS after 5 months of pain - we have one life to live ; ) ! I hope that manometry will give definite answer, although experienced CRS can feel a spasm without it !
All the best !

I am sure I still have a fissure because it stills burns/itch and I have blood on the stools sometimes but the real pain/discomfort I think is coming from the tight anal canal(spasm). I have always had a tight anal canal. A lot of CRS have mentioned it when I have had treatment of RBL. The pain have changed alot in the process. At first it felt like a sharp knife in my ass constatly. Now the feeling is like a dump pain with burning and somtimes itching. But I guess it is because the fissure has healed a lot. It is nowhere as deep and big as it ones where.

I put up with 7 months of hell from pain and spasms and my only regret is that I didnt have the LIS done sooner.
Have you tried diltiazem, that really helps with the spasm pain?

Sometimes fissures close on the surface, but not below. But, even if you "just have a spasm" pain - it is excruciating and my heart goes to you ! I just yesterday started having spasm pains again - and I am freaking out - to say the least Image !!!! I hoped so much that I will not have to go to any CRS again, but I can clearly see it "in my cards" now - Image and I don't even know to which one to go ! Maybe I should try a 4th one !???

They only have Nitro in Norway and that gave me a terrible headache..I will ask my family doctor for diltiazem and maybe they can import it or somthing..
On my last exam my CRS told me I had an hypertonic anal sphincter so I guess that is is spasm that have made it so.

Lars, you sound like you recognize the pain is more "constant,'" and has a direct cause (regardless of the type of pain) rather than something that seems to suddenly come on, then intensify, then fade away, i.e., a spasm.
However, a tight anal region is indicative of a tight sphincter, and the LIS will help alleviate that, it's primary purpose. Being looser down there is the key, so your treatment focus "seems" like it should be in that direction.
I don't think you need to link the need for LIS so tightly to "spasming," per se.

You see - your doctor even nows without extra exams that your sphincter is super tight :( ! Mine was too, and even though I had the LIS the damn thing "resurrected from the dead" Image -it is like the thing from those horror movies when you think that a bad guy died but than all of the sudden he is back with the chain-saw in your room Image !!!! Aaaaaaaaaa ... !!!!
Maybe I prayed wrong way LOL - I prayed for the FULL healing - maybe that included the mending of the muscle too ???!!! I should have asked for healing "just enough" to have a normal life Image Image maybe Image
Anyways, sorry for rumbling here - what I am trying to say is that I will probably need a second LIS and that I wish that my CRS did not assume that
my sphincter could not be THAT strong after 2 babies - well guess what dude Image - you were wrong and you cut me too little Image !
Lars- don't be afraid of the LIS - be afraid that they cut too little ! I felt great after LIS - and I will probably go for a second one if CRS suggests it !
All the best !

Hi Lars-

Sorry for all of your pain! I too, am (what my CRS called me), a tight ass! He told me there was no reason for me to go for a manometry test, that he could tell how high my resting pressure was just by sticking a finger up there!! The only thing that will alleviate the pressure is LIS. Don't suffer any longer, get it done and over with. I had a 2nd LIS done at the end of March and my 3rd done on June 12th. I went for a post op last Thursday, and there is no sign of the fissure! I'm just hoping that the 3rd LIS was the charm. You will feel soooo much better and relatively quickly. Don't get me wrong, I don't enjoy having this done over and over again, but it beats the pain of a fissure. I didn't think twice about going a 3rd time...and if need be, I'll do a 4th (God forbid) until my pressure is normal!

Lots of luck to you!!

Nancy
