11 month post-op update
I'm approaching the one year mark since my surgery. I'm happy to report that I have had no issues of any type this month. This means no pain, discomfort, etc. Everything is going well. I've been weightlifting, super active, able to eat a varied diet without problems, and had to make no modifications to my lifestyle lately.

I had my op 11 days ago. I still feel pain when I have a BM and have been applying a topical Ana. I feel discomfort and itching when I move but I'm itching to get back to weightlifting. I was training to be a fitness training.. I would hike, lift weights and do high interval training, 6 times a week.

When is it safe to start again?
Some sites say no more than 5 kgs in the first 6 weeks
Other sites say 6 to 9 months...

What is your take on protein shakes and their effects on a healing fissure post LIS

13 month post-op update

Still no issues. Everything has been fine.

Kreaybutt- Hello. Thanks! I'm on a normal diet (as far as no restrictions due to last years surgery). I can eat tons of veggies, meat, nuts, etc.

Melmel - Hi. All the recommendations seem to suggest waiting a very long time. However, I started very soon. I started with very, very light weight and just took my time to make sure there was no straining. Sometimes, I regretted it. I recall that I played basketball and did a cardio class very soon (I can't recall when - but I think I wrote it all in the diary somewhere). However, I felt that was too much, too soon. I can assure you that I didn't wait 6 months. I was fully working out by January (except maybe avoiding heavy squats and deadlifts). However, I think each person is different and it depends on how fast you recover. I ate protein shakes and had no issues. I was mixing applesauce and bananas in mine. I think finding nutritious food that doesn't hurt the area is the key to helping your body stay strong and heal fast. Of course, you should ask your doctor - since I'm just a patient.

Hi Ryan,
Thank you for your story. I am 6 days out and I'm having very little discharge and bleeding. I'm so worried about having it later. I went to the bathroom and wiped clean. I went back 20 minutes later and had to wipe again. Is this going to last? I'm so scared. I had the surgery because of the pain and the wiping. I hope that this isn't going to continue.

Update: 2 years, 2 months post operation.

Hello. I wanted to come back and share an update. I have not had any issues related to the fissure. Everything is going well and I'm glad I had the surgery a couple of years ago. Thanks again for all the advice and posts. I am very glad this forum was available for us to share the stories, experiences, and challenges.

Thanks,

Ryan

Thanks for coming back and providing a long term outlook following the LIS surgery. I just had it 3 weeks ago and it has been rough. It is so nice to hear that my current suffering will hopefully be worth it in the end (pun intended)!

Have you noticed any changes in your body down there? Like did you 'feel' looser after surgery? And did this change over time? :thankyou:
Dec '13 Fissure from anoscope
3 X internal sphincter botox
'08-'15 Botox for pelvic floor dysfunction
Nov '14 LIS/sentinel tag removal
Feb '15 Deroofing of recurrent infection from LIS
summer '15-healed but still ongoing muscle dysfunction/pain
