LIS on 7th of June 2014

Hello Guys

So it has been started 1.5 year ago, initially I tried all the stool softener but nothing worked out. So I went with world famous Miralax + Magnesium daily and it worked well and I had less pain.

So my pain was like starts after 4-5 hours of BM and it last for 5 hours daily. but Miralax and Magnesium did well and had very little pain/burning after those 4-5 hours. Until 3 weeks ago everything was fine, then burning starts again and I increased the amount of Miralax (Movcol, I found local alternative) but it no difference, so I looked for surgeon and met one a week ago, he said you we have no option but surgery.

So scheduled surgery for last saturday and had LIS with local epidural and all happened in a 2 minutes. So after 8-10 hours little pain starts plus pain on epidural area as well, which later mild and then go away today.

Then I had a BM next day and I felt that pain/burning is same, no difference. After 3 BM and 3 days. I have same burning after 4-5 hours starts.. and last for 4-5 hours. So not sure it is too early (Since only 3 days) to say but my LIS failed? What should I do now?

Just so you know, I had the same panic set in exactly on day 3 because I still had spasms and was in as much if not more pain that I had been in prior to surgery. Mine turned around on day 4 and my pain was gone on day 7 but everyone is different. Many people take weeks or months to recover but still end up fully recovered and happy they did the surgery. Take it one day at a time, you are definitely in too early of a stage to determine if it failed.
Developed fissure from constipation due to breastfeeding 7 weeks after delivery (Jan 2014)
Nifedepine
Colace
Magnesium
Miralax - godsend
Nitro - some improvement
LIS (May 2014) - cured for 3 months then setback
Diltiazem
Feeling better for now

Hello,

I am sorry to hear that you are not getting the quick results after surgery. Yes, it is too early to say your LIS failed. These things can take six to eight weeks after surgery to heal. Are you still taking the Movcol and magnesium daily with a high fiber diet to keep the stools sotf? When you have a BM can you feel any difference in the sphincter muscle? Did the doctor cauterize or clean of the edges of the fissure as these procedures will take time to heal? My doctor recommended not to put any creams in the area, but you should follow your doctors orders. Give it time and do not get down as it is still early in the healing game.

Went to surgeon again! He said everything looks good physically. he gave me Distalgesic and Stelazine and wants to see me after 10 days! As per everything is as expected, and under control.

Not sure burning is still there though :(

What should I do?

Hmmm, that is worrying. Maybe your surgeon cut too conservatively? Keep after him - make sure he knows you are still in pain. Don't give up!
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.
Status - Healed!
