I just had my pressure (anal manometry) test done today and it concluded that I have a high rest anal tone so the crs and gynecologist that performed the test suggest that I get Botox in the internal sphincter to see if it helps... The test was not painful, I was very nervous though. The doctor did say that they usually do surgery for people that have fissures but if Botox helps then we might have to go that route. In the meantime, I will start dilating.

I'm glad to hear that dilating is working for you.. My pt suggested doing a warm bath before dilating to relax the sphincter.

Thank you... Just wondering if any other illness can also cause high anal resting tone... The burning sitting pain is unbearable. How are you doing?

I got Botox today into the sphincter.. Was not sedated; it was a little painful but quick..glad the experience is over. I went out to eat afterwards, no big deal... Just waiting for the Botox to kick in to see if this helps this aching, sitting burning pain.

God please let this be my solution to my anal problem :)

Just thought to share this website since they seem to be very knowledgeable about pelvic floor dysfunction perhaps you can contact them for a referral in your area. They also have a blog with a lot of useful information...

Alyssa,

Thanks for that website link. Having a good look through it now.

Have you started doing the dilation yet?? I am still finding it's very up and down. I have had periods of a week or more with little pain, only for it come back at extreme levels where I've had to use a heating pad and lie on the bed.

I was thinking the dilation might help with stretching some of the scar tissue surrounding the internal sphincter from the previous rectal surgeries.

I find nothing works better than a small dose of Valium during the flare ups. Really helps ease the spasms better than the painkillers alone.

Msimon have your symptoms started to settle down somewhat?

P,

I have not started dilation yet since I am waiting for Botox to kick in before starting... But I thought I should get a second opinion about my condition; they have an office 15-20 minutes from where I live...

Hi there,
Sorry to parachute in on your discussion here. But reading your messages here makes me feel like "OMG this is exactly what I'm experiencing!" I've only posted a couple of times on this forum but I'll give you a summary.

After my first son was born in 2011 I experienced a fissure. It healed on it's own but then reoccurred 6 months later. I used diltiazem and it healed. No problems (with the fissure) until I become pregnant with my second 18 months later. I had mild fissure pain. But that's when the rectal irritation/burning started. I thought it was from the diltiazem. Stopped taking it but burning pain continued. Thought it was probably just due to being pregnant - extra pressure, etc. It eventually mostly subsided. All was ok until about a year ago when the fissure pain started again. I tried diltiazem again and it burned like you wouldn't believe. For the past year I have had rectal burning, especially after a bm. My anal area feels so irritated and sometimes I get little "paper cuts" that slightly bleed and are not huge fissures. My GP and a CRS have said I don't have a fissure. Now add to this, about 6 months I started getting pelvic pain and pain during/after intercourse. So I self-referred to a PT. I've been doing that for 2 months. I have pelvic floor dysfunction. Sometimes the muscles are super tight and she finds trigger points but other times the muscle seem relaxed. I often have spasms in the pelvic floor muscles. Only once she's tried a rectal exam and I find the burning horrible.

Until reading your posts, I figured the burning pain was more a tissue problem like a reaction or allergy or something like that. Have you found PT focusing on the rectal muscles (is that even a thing?!) to be helpful at all? Have any of you had childbirth as a trigger to your problems? Both of my births were "messy" Forceps, tearing and episiotomy (sp?).

Thanks
goodlife

I'm finding this thread really interesting. I have increased burning pain all day long where my fissure was located, yet my crs says the flap has healed and the new fissure looks like it is healing and superficial.
Maybe I have chronic pain from scar tissue?
I do know that general Xmas stress is ramping the pain up considerably.
