Hope you two don't mind me weighing in on your conversation, GG and mamafizz. You are both amazing and so strong.

I saw my surgeon again the other day for a post-op consultation and she gave me some useful and interesting advice: she said that all the nerves in the pelvic floor are interconnected, so if you have a problem in one area then everything else down there is going to go haywire as well. This is why people can have trouble urinating if they have an anal fissure or have had their haemorrhoids banded or operated on, and why there can be strange pains and symptoms in other areas in the pelvic floor.

The pelvic floor physio explained to me that if you have ongoing pain from any kind of injury or illness, then the brain practices feeling pain. Sometimes it can get stuck creating 'I'm in pain' messages even after you have healed.

I'm still having a lot of swelling post banding...my surgeon will review things again in a few weeks and see whether she needs to put another band on to finally kill this horrible thing off.

Thanks Water Bear! I've heard the same from my physio! We actually reduced a lot of pain in other pelvic floor areas that were caused by the anal sphincter tightness/fissure. My whole pelvic floor used to be sore all the time!

But, still pain at the sphincter. Mamafizz - hems are probably contributing. I spoke to my surgeons nurse (and he spoke to my surgeon) and they say that I do have two internal hems, one that "pokes out" slightly. We know I had these pre fissure - so they're thinking (and I agree) that because the internal anal sphincter is SO so tight, it's squeezing them and causing swelling, and forcing me to push more during bm (further irritating). So if the pain is from the hems, it is a symptom of the really tight sphincter....so LIS it is!

Just found out that it will be four weeks until my surgery - cant wait.

Thanks guys. I was really hoping the surgery would be sooner, they told me originally it would be mid to late march, now looking like probably early April, but I'm hoping I can get my stomach pain under control before then... I keep thinking it's gone, but it just returns for another week. Constant pressure all through my abdomen like trapped gas, but all day every day and not relieved by bm or passing gas. Argh

Hi GG, You will get there, things gets alittle haywire when dealing with so much pain the nervous system can be hyper sensitive too I never realized our colons are connected to our emotions and brains, until I read about it on the forum. If I would have just sprained my ankle it would not have been so mind boggling! I try to be distracted watch comedies etc.. laughter is the best medicine after all. Since now I can't soothe myself with comfort food anymore. Being this thin again is totally weird. haha. I am sure we will all be a lot healthier after all of this is over....Keep us posted...

Hi WaterBear, Let me know what you found out about your tailbone pain, I read alot about it on the forum seems a people get this after Botox, I suppose those muscles are overworked now, it is a really strange thing honestly. . What does your muscle tailbone feel like? Does it hurt all of the time or just constant sore tightness?Have you had pain each day since this happened to you? Hope your making progress also!

6 weeks since my procedures and I'm finally feeling better. Swelling has almost all gone, and I feel like the bottom is quite relaxed and happy thanks to the Botox. My surgeon is pleased with the results and didn't think I'd need to see her again, as long as I keep up the good bowel habits.

I'm too afraid to wean myself off lactulose just yet, but I'm only taking about a teaspoon each night, and my surgeon said it's perfectly safe to take it pretty much forever if I feel I need to, since it's just an indigestible sugar and is found naturally in foods like milk anyway.

In spite of the weeks of discomfort with the thrombosed haemorrhoid from the banding, I would still go through it all again.

My experience with Botox has been good, I am relieved I tried it first rather than jumping straight to the LIS.

All best wishes!

Hi, Water Bear, Happy to hear things are better!! I too have continued improving slowly. I gauge it month by month! The specialist told me it takes some months but remaining soreness muscle issues will fizzle out slowly. So has your brain finished up practicing pain by now!!.. Best and healing to all...

GG I was hoping to read you were through your surgery, but good to see it will be very soon. Prayers and positive vibes..Any better in the meantime?? Always that miracle!

I just wanted to post to let the lovely people on this forum know that I've had a recurrence 8 months after getting the Botox treatment. I'm straight onto the problem with GTN ointment (hello, headaches!) and seeing the CRS in a few weeks.

I needed to try the Botox for my own peace of mind but it clearly isn't a long-term fix for me. I'm sure the CRS will recommend the LIS now.
