They do do it on the NHS but maybe only at certain hospitals I know the northern general in Sheffield has a pelvic pain department which has both physios and doctors in maybe you could have a look at your nearest large hospital then contact them directly

Thank you. Yes I think I'll look into private consultation to at least get some advice...

Has anyone had any luck with Ozonated Olive oil?
I've got some and been massaging gently.....

I've looked into getting some physio and have an appointment next week for an initial assessment!
I'm really hoping this is going to relieve this horrendous feeling I have constantly, but in particular when sitting down!
Thank you so much to the ladies who replied to my original post as it's really given me some hope (which I was really needing feeling so low and crap all the time.......) hope that this might be the answer to the endless pain.....
Is there any advice for my initial appointment?..

That's great Nikki!!

I have a feeling this will help you out or at least give you a better idea of what's going on!

The first assessment might be a little awkward - it's a little strange having someone poke around down there lol. When I went, my fissure was still painful and I was having sphincter spasms, so she was not able to do a rectal exam. But since we are female (hooray) they can often palpate lots of relevant muscles through the vagina. Your physio may do this and feel on the outside just to see what's going - what muscles are too tight, loose, feel for trigger points etc. My physio was very very gentle - don't be afraid to tell them if anything hurts in the slightest. We also went over how to relax the pelvic floor and good bowel movement practices. Of course it may be different with your visit, but I would expect to leave with a better idea of what your muscles are doing.

And don't worry - it's awkward at first but it soon becomes ok - it helps to remember that they do this all day, everyday. Nothing new for them!

Good luck, keep us updated!

Glad you got an appointment so quick I'm sure you will feel so much better after as you will probably gets lots of help.
As for ozonated olive oil I did use it for 3 months and although I felt I'd did moisturise the are it didn't help my fissure heal...but it was at the worst point when I was having full on spasms for 24 hours after every BM so I don't think anything could have helped it heal.
Good luck with your appointment and keep us updated

Thanx so much ladies. Your words of support, and the fact that you can empathise having gone through it yourselves is very encouraging and helpful!
I will keep you posted how I get on with my appointment.....
I've been reading about Levator Ani and related symptoms as this has been mentioned to me a couple of times, and it sums up my symptoms exactly.... I feel all tight, bunched up, bruised and as if a small ball is stuck up my jacksie!

Could I ask, are you still suffering, or is your fissure(s) healed and are you free from the spasms etc..? If so what finally did it for you, or was it a whole combination of treatments or just time? I've started having reflexology weekly also (this whole thing is costing me a small fortune!!!), supposed to help with better blood flow to the area as well as general health and relaxation, I love it!

Luckily I am fine at night, I guess everything is relaxed and no pressure on my poor behind, and things aren't too bad (and by this I mean bearable pain..) until I have a BM, then I'm in pain for the rest of the day, ranging from uncomfortable to downright agony!
Thanx :thanx:

Oh I must have spent thousands on trying anything and everything to get it to heal.
My fissure is 95% healed after LIS but I have crohns and IBS and when I have a flare the acidity of my BMs can set my spasms off. If my colon is behaving then I'm pretty much spasm and mainly pain free....I do get a bit of burning occasionally but nothing like pre LIS
I would say if you have a fissure that won't heal then LIS is the best treatment even for deep fissures. I doubt it would have any impact on levator Ani though.
Yes reflexology is great I would love to be able to afford it

Nikki also the specialist said that Levator Ani is usually when there is not a fissure, but the symptoms created from having fissures or hems are similar if not the same. So the treatment remains mostly with time. He assured me It Does go away and will go away but it varies with everyone on the timeframe. I have had this since last June. How long have you had the lavator tenderness , as he calls it if it was brought on by fissure.

Got the link, thanx mamafizz.
So, I've had an initial physio appointment, after listening to my medical history she examined me vaginally and said all felt fine. She was surprised as my symptoms had her thinking she'd find some abnormal tightness etc. As she didn't feel able to help me further she's been in touch with a colleague who has more experience and is sending me some physio exercises to help (let's hope they work) and I can go to her if symptoms persist...
I've had some real ups and downs the last couple of weeks. Some days so much pain and some days hardly know it's there!! This is so frustrating! I think maybe when I've overdone it a bit I then suffer, i.e. long weekend did lots of family stuff, long walks, gardening (much crouching, squatting down) etc then by the Monday aching internally towards back of bottom. And burning, tearing sort of feeling when sitting. Guess it's my body's way of saying rest and don't do so much?!
Been trying calendula, castor or olive oil mixed with bit of tea tree, lavender etc..
Going out of my mind some days as it feels my only option could be surgery but I really can't stand the idea of more recovery and healing (no matter how "easy" and minor the surgeon says it is!!) and general anesthetic scares me especially since my dad tragically died during an operation at the age of 60..... :(
Still doing the reflexology and hoping all my efforts for a natural healing will work......
Any pearls of wisdom gratefully accepted x
