LIS Stitches/misc worrying

Postby Diaboliq » 30 Apr 2017, 05:58

Maybe I've had way too much time to dwell on my ass post LIS, but I have a couple questions for you all. BTW I'm on day 11 post op.

How long did your stitches stay put if you had closed LIS? I feel like I may have broken them. Or possibly they are dissolving? If I feel back there I feel a sharp pointy thing, which I assume is a piece of the stitch sticking out. Is it bad if I did break them? I assume that since some people don't even get stitches that it's not a big deal, but I just want to see what everyone else went through.

So let's say the stitches are broken and the wound is open. Is 11 days far enough along to not worry about infection and abcesses and stuff? I haven't been doing sitz baths, but I've been spraying in the shower 3-8 times a day.

How about pushing for a BM? I think I pushed a little harder then I should have today because I was a little constipated for some reason. This wouldn't ruin anything right? What COULD happen if you just pushed as hard as you could? Rip open the fissure and the incision site?

Now drainage. It's 11 days now and I'm still packing gauze in my ass and changing it every couple of hours and it's still soaked red with blood and some mucus-y stuff (95% blood though). I did have banding on 2 hems also, so maybe it's that? Just curious what other people's drainage was like.

For the men (or hairy assed women :D), did they shave your ass? I still can't tell if all of the irritation I'm feeling there is the stitches, or my ass hair growing back, but it's prickly as hell and is really irritating. I haven't heard anyone talk about this, but it's been a major comfort killer for me. It's actually caused me more discomfort overall then anything else.

Also thanks to all of the people providing info to me and sharing experiences. This board really is invaluable for people suffering like us. :thanx:

If a anyone would like to chat privately, please send me and email through the site, I'd be glad to talk!

I didnt have stitches at all, so i think if you have a open wound now its just nothing. Open wounds heal much better than stitches. Pushing too hard while BM is one of the main reasons for Anal fissures, combined with hard stools. It can open the fissuer again and you may need second surgery like me. I didnt keep the stools soft after my first surgery. Now i do, and my bm's work like a charm. I'm not healed yet though, but the pain is much better. My ass is hairy too, they didnt shave anything, idk if thats a problem^^

Yes I had stitches are there was one poking out for a bit. Some fell out, and I assume the rest dissolved. I wouldn't worry about if they open up at all.

I did not have nearly that much bleeding though, but it does sound like it could be the hemorrhoids.

I would try and do the sitz baths a couple times a day if you can. It will help healing and help with any potential for infection. I did develop an abscess, but it's not infected which is really good - likely because I do sitz baths 3x daily and always after bms, and shower like you describe after bms also. It's tedious but will be temporary.

Try to avoid pushing during bms but if you gotta then you gotta! I have some pelvic floor problems so I sometimes have to strain more than I should. Normally some comes very easy, but the end not so much. I could push to go, but instead I use a small bulb enema with warm water. Normally have to wait only a few seconds or a minute then the urge is strong and no pushing required. It can be a little tricky inserting the enema with the incision there, but as long as I used lots of Vaseline and was very careful it didn't hurt or aggravate things one bit.

GG one question, my doc told me after my surgery i have to use a bandage like thing, i have to stick it in my asshole to keep the area clean and change it every 2-3 hours, he said it cant heal if the area is dirty all the time. Do you use something like that too?

No, but I only had the LIS. If you're having lots of bleeding that makes sense!

Do you have one of those portable sitz baths that go over the toilet? They're great if you need to have lots of sitz baths. Maybe you could do a bath or shower clean each time you change the packing and post bm.

You can always phone your surgeon to ask about your progress if you're not sure how things are going. I never had much leakage so I'm not sure! But I felt pretty sore for about two weeks, then things improved greatly over the third week.

Don't let yourself get constipated, do the sitz baths and you'll get through!

Don't worry about bothering your surgeon if you ever feel like it - they don't mind an update and if it eases your mind it's well worth their time!

I am doing sitz baths with Epsom salts!

Yeah i know, if there was something i would be uncomftorable with, i would call him. But right now, i'm just having small pain 2 hours after BM and thats it. So far so good? :)

Are epsom salts good? I got mine from pharmacy and it is specialised for anal fissure post lis, so i think thats the best one i can find here in germany :D And how long are you sitting in there?

P.S One more question (Sorry :D) i am sitting basically all day on my chair (which is not hard, also got a pillow on it) in front of my pc playing games (i am 18 years old dont blame me) im just outside when i go to school apart of that i m just at home, could that be a problem for the fissure? I dont really have pain when i'm sitting on my chair.
