Hi missy moo

Yes sorry I did notice that after I hit submit, but it would be interesting to see if he is doing ok after that, fingers crossed he is.

Hi All,

Sorry I’ve not been back here recently but I changed email account and so wasn’t receiving notifications.

So now it’s seven years since my surgery and I’ve had no fissure problems in that time whatsoever. It’s like I just don’t suffer now like I did back then. Pre-fissure days I also used to have haemorrhoid flare ups but again I’ve had no problems with these in the past seven years.

I can eat what I want, drink what I want and be completely dehydrated without any issue.

The only slightest issue I’ve ever had is if I had a bit of an upset stomach and go to the bathroom there are some occasions where I will have to give it a further wipe clean about ten minutes later. I’m not talking leakage here or anything sinister, it’s just a short clean up wipe. If however I shower straight after using the toilet then I don’t have this issue at all.

I hope this helps a little.

Have a good weekend folks

Davo

There really is life after fissures!

Somedays we think the condition is chronic and will never go away but eventually it does sort itself out one way or another.

Hi Missy,

That’s a good question and one I’m struggling to recall right now. I think it was about six months from memory. My GP tried almost every medication possible and we tried all the correct diet procedures first. I then started using GTN and when that didn’t work I was then referred to a CRS (Alistair Windsor).

At first he was reluctant as he thought we could heal the fissure without resorting to surgery so he made me do another course of the GTN first.

When that didn’t work he gave me the option of Botox or LIS and a few days later I had the surgery.

Following the surgery he said my fissure was so deep that it could never be repairable by GTN alone so LIS would have been the only option for me anyway.

I know a fissure is a truly horrible thing to have but patience really is the key. You’re best trying to heal it naturally wherever possible first.

I've had my fissure for 5 an a half years I had Botox a year ago and I'm getting another dose of Botox soon. What did the crs say about the Botox option? Thanks for taking the time to reply.

This was a great read Davo, made me feel a lot more relaxed about impending LIS, although I am still understandably apprehensive.

Had Hemmies and fissure on and off for 2 years. Diltiazem, then Botox and diltiazem, then Botox and Hemmie banding, now on diltiazem again and have the option of LIS or Botox again in 2 weeks time. Seriously thinking that LIS is the way to go after being doubled up in pain after a BM every other day for months. Really affecting my entire life at the moment, work, wife, kids, all affected by what I can and cannot do. :(
