Hi Amycristine, Suffering2long, missymoo. Sorry for not being able to reply immediately. Im healing well . Still taking stool softeners though. Its important to keep the bowels soft. @missymoo I'd suggest u go ahead with the surgery. Living with the fissure pain was the most depressing phase of my life. I have no continence issues post LIS. I've had 2 vaginal deliveries before LIS. Go to an experienced surgeon and get it done. My prayers to everyone in this forum to heal completely and lead a happy healthy life.

Hi phoenix! Your post gives me hope. I like hearing from mothers that have had vaginal births. That is the reason we get told no lis.
Hearing that you and Amychristine had lis after births, makes me think I could do it.
Thankyou

Suffering2long me too it gives me hope so half of us have given birth naturally an then got lis and half of us have given birth naturally and haven't had lis its like a mini study lol let see how we all go. I've had my fissure for 8years so i think lis is the only answer now. Phoenix1510 can you tell us about your first few dqys after lis was it bad? Did a general surgeon do your op or a private specialist? To go private here cost about $10k and through the health system is free but it gives me less comfort

Hi missymoo, the first 72hrs post LIS i was told to be on strict liquid diet. Just fresh juices and soups. The first bm was painless. And slowly started including my usual diet, the first week post LIS was painful during bm's. But it was bearable and it was nothing wen compared to the fissure pain. And also my surgery was performed by a general surgeon who was very kind and had 15 yrs experience in this field(had to mention it). I had medical insurance, so my surgery costs were covered by insurance completely.

Gosh i just this morning experienced the mpst pain an bleeding I've had in ages I'm so so so over it!!! I don't think we should take stool softeners because they don't heal anal fissures I've been taking stool softeners everyday for 8 years an i still have a fissure so go figure they don't help I'm actually worried that long term they may hurt us over time having skinny soft bms makes our muscle not use to stretching and makes it close off tighten up because of not being stretched daily like its ment too. Then when we have a normal bm randomly one day it will retear the fissure this is exactly what I've been experiencing for the last 8 years. Soft soft soft fine fine fine then randomly either a bit of a hard or even soft but larger bm which requires a little stretch and boom blood an pain all over again this happens every few weeks for me. So my thoughts are that our muscle has to be use to an able to have normal an occasionally a little constipation. Qe can't create perfect soft skinny bms everyday for the rest of our lives because of so many different things that can change the bm for a day. Stress, travel, exercise, diet change (1 meal) hot day, job change, job loss all these things can change our bms for 1 day and it only takes 1 bm to set us back to square 1.
Anyway i haven't taken a stool softener in about 8 wks I'm trying to eat super healthy and let my body be natural with slightly different bms everyday because thats life. I still obviously have a fissure and its a tough road to walk for sure. I'll be asking the surgeon if we should live on softeners or not and if after lis our muscle can handle normal bms again i just want to reset my muscle it use to be normal pre fissure it could stretch i could have a random harder bm here an there without a problem now i can't handle anything other then soft serve ice-cream texture and that isn't achievable everyday for ever for other human being.

So sorry you had pain and blood this morning I know that feeling it’s awful. I totally get what your saying and agree I don’t think we should be on them long term. I do think they are good after surgery because you want to minimize the pain and really try and heal. My plan is to be on them a little longer then slowly ease off them so the muscle gets use to regular bowel movements. I’ve heard a lot of people say they find a good fiber supplement to take after. Fissures are such a tricky thing… almost damned if you do and damned if you don’t as far as laxatives go. All it takes is cutting them out and then getting constipated and then back at square one it seems. Then like you say overuse of them can create a lazy muscle so then when you do have a bigger or harder bowel movement you can tear as well. It is so mentally draining. Do you guys struggle with depression from this? I find its really taken a toll on me that way over the years.

Amychristine yep i agree a stool softener would be good after surgery just for like the first 2wks or so but i think as soon as possible we need to get back to normal.

I have anxiety and thos whole journey has made it so much worse and yes I've had times when I've been so down I've not wanted to do it anymore just completely breaking down i remember thinking i can't wait till I'm old so i don't have long to go. I could never end my own life but in my mind be very elderly looked nice because my life would nearly be over i didn't want to be in my 20s because i had to much life left to live an i didn't want to do anymore life. I spent basically all of my 20s with a chronic anal fissure I've never travelled or gone out an had fun I've never lived just had a fissure an thats it. Yep fissures reck lives for sure.

That’s not good to hear Missy:( I’m in the same boat. My muscle at the moment feels like it’s not stretching at all! It’s like pooping through a steel ring. Soft motions are getting stuck. I agree that we need to use the muscle and so do the drs I’ve spoken to. One dr said it didn’t matter if they were too soft.
After my flap, I kept stools soft for ages and slowly as I healed, I was able to stretch a bit and have semi normal stools where I had barely any pain. Obviously my muscle is now tightening due to tag removal and new fissure and I’m having major issues again though. This time around I don’t even have Botox in to assist healing.
Amychristine, yes to the depression!! My husband thinks I should see someone about it but I truely think it’s only because of this fissure. When I’m not in pain etc, I’m happy and positive. On bad days I think I scare him with how low I can get.
