Back from my family doctor. She took blood samples. Will get the results of these on Wednesday. If I don`t like what my CRS have to say on the 7.7.08 when I have an appointment I will be transfered to another hospital for a new opinon.
I am still living in pian/discomfort every day. Sometimes I wish I just had a colostomi... But I guess I would still have pain bacause of the tightness...
Have anyone heard of rectogesic?

Hi Lars,
I have heard of rectogesic but I don't know what is in it. I would imagine it has some kind of vasodilator in it to help relax the area.

Are you taking sitzbaths after you go and when you get home from work? Maybe you can bring a heating pad to work and sit on that to help bring more blood flow to the area.

What was the bloodwork for? I am glad that at least you can get a second opinion after your next CRS appt.

We understand the misery and the feeling of why should I have to suffer with this while everyone else is living normal lives. (or so it seems)

I have asked two doctors about colostomies and neither would consider it for me. I know you will get better, we just need to find what method is going to help you heal.

:hi: Lars,
I found the following info on at netdoctor.co.uk about Rectogesic. I believe this is similar or the same as some of the ointments available in the US, like nifedipine or nitro and others which reduce the pressure.
"[color=darkblue]The ointment is applied inside the anus. It works by releasing a chemical called nitric oxide, which is a chemical also made naturally by the body. Nitric oxide relaxes (dilates) blood vessels. It also relaxes the internal sphincter muscle in the anus. This improves the blood supply to the anus, which relieves the pain and helps the fissure to heal."
"Although this medicine acts locally when applied to the anus, it is also absorbed into the bloodstream and can therefore have effects on the rest of the body. In particular, it can cause headaches. It may also cause a drop in blood pressure, especially when you move from a lying or sitting position to sitting or standing. The drop in blood pressure can make you feel dizzy or unsteady. To avoid this try changing position slowly. If you do feel dizzy, sit or lie down until the symptoms pass. If affected you should avoid performing potentially hazardous tasks such as driving or operating machinary. Drinking alcohol is likely to enhance any dizziness."

I have used the nifedipine for about 3 months and think it has helped me.
Hoping you are feeling better very soon. Image

Hello everyone. Thanks for the great support :)
The blood test where taken to see if I have an infection/virus. I have to think of everything who can interfere with the fissure not healing...
Right now I have VERY little discomfort/pain. I wish it could be like this forever :) maybe if I am lucky it will stay like this the rest of the day...
The rectogesic is VERY expensive so I am not happy with buying it if it causes me very bad headache like nitro.
It seems that it is very unusual that LIS is used in Norway... Maybe I will come to the U.S and have the operation there :)

rectogesic is nitro over here! So it probably is in your country too- thats why it gives you the headaches because its the same thing!

Have you read about Bob the anal fissure...funny story, but very trying. the author got dilation suregery in Norway. I'm not sure if it is still used, but I wouldn't go for it. perhaps you could go to the UK for the surgery....

Yes I have read about Bob. It`s hilarious :) It is in Finland, not Norway :)
When I had the fistula operation(January 2004) they diltated me with 2 finger for faster healing. It worked like a charm for me.
The only way I would do it again is if LIS fails. Something I don`t think though.
The Nitro gave me terrible headache so I stopped using it. Didn`t feel it helped either.
