Pinky,
Just keep in mind that the surgery doesn't heal you immediately, it only stops the spasms. So right after the surgery, you are super sore from the trauma AND your fissure is still gonna hurt. Please understand that, and it will keep you from despairing.
My CRS told me I would feel like killing him for about two weeks after the surgery, but actually, I only wanted to murder him for a bout a week!
Hang tough!!

Yesterday was a nightmare!i had a BM in the morning after waking up and then it was the worst pain ever.i woke my hubby crying in pain, unable to even lie down.the discharge was foulsmelling and i was sure it was an infection.perianal region on the right side was extremely tender.hubby tried to have a look but he cudnt even manage to see anything as i was in severe pain.it was worse than the fissure pain.called my crs's secretary and got to know crs wudnt be in till monday.we waited for an hour hoping for the pain to subside.then it just go worse and we went to A n E around 9am.i cudnt even walk.thought of getting an ambulance but then felt guilty if someone else more serious needed it than me.i somehow managed to lie down at the back of the car and was screaming in pain while hubby drove me.my hubby works in the Accident and emergency so had all the perks.i was given morphine and my blood tests were all normal.2 docs tried to examine me but cudnt see much due to pain.i was then referred to the surgeon who was in theatre.my pain started to ease a bit and i was put nil orally incase i had to go to theatre.the surgeon finally came at 5pm.he examined and felt there was a possibilty of an abscess and i needed to be examined under GA and drainage Image
it was the 4th time i was going to theatre in the last 8months,thrice in just 6 weeks Image i didnt know how to react or wat to expect.id just given up all hopes that i wud be fine.told hubby to get my son from home quickly as i missed me.spent some time with my son and was preparing myself to be in pain for the next few months.i was given iv antibiotics and regular painkillers.they came around 8pm to take me and i was in tears.i was anaesthetised and woke up in recovery in pain.the surgeon told me he had a good look and cud find no signs of infection or abscess and even if there was some infection it had cleared up.wat a relief!I thanked God and went back to the room where hubby was waiting.even he was relieved and then i tried to sleep.it was a slow night,i didnt have a watch n wud ask the nurse everytime she came in.it was morning finally and i felt so much better.i was able to walk slowly and had some brownbread with jam and water.the surgeon came around and told me i cud go home if i felt better and that i shud continue with antibiotics and regular painkillers.he adviced me not to breast feed while on cefradine and metronidazole.i know its not ideal to use metronidazole and every doctor has different opinions.i did have it after delivery as i had an infection.we've tried formula milk and he hates it.we tried from the cup as well and he wont take it.i dont know wat to do.im very worried how he'll manage without milk for the next 5days and if i shud feed him.im better now.my sons just woke up and he's all over the laptop.more later

OMG! Pinky! I feel for you!! Sounds like a horrible day/night! But it also sounds hopeful, since they didn't find anything!! How is your pain now? Do continue to take the pain killers at the first sign of on-coming pain, as they are more effective if you get them in your system early!!
I know this must be a horrible ordeal what with having such a young son to care for. But don't keep thinking this going to last months, it is not!!
Rest, rest, rest, all you can until you get your strength back and the soreness diminishes.
We are praying for you! Come here and vent all you want to! That's what we are for!!

Oh, Pinky, I am so sorry you had such a scare. When the pain is so intense sometimes we do need to just go to the ER to see what it could be and get the pain under control. I've been thinking about you and wondering how you are doing. I know this has been so hard on you.

I lean more on the side of breastfeeding even on the meds because I believe the benefits outweight any potential risks but you have to do what you feel comfortable with. I don't know off hand about those drugs with breastfeeding but I can look them up and see what I can find. I know you would feel better and your son would too if you could.

:( wow, what a nightmare, so sorry you're having to go through all that. I'm glad he's had a good look and you have no sign of infection now, and very glad you feel a bit better now!
When i was unsure of mixing medications i phoned around lots of different pharmacies and asked the advice of the pharmacist. They might have a better idea of what medicines are bad when breastfeeding. Just dont suddenly stop the antibiotics mid-course! It would possibly be a nightmare for you and babe if you couldnt feed him for 5 days when he doesnt like bottle milk. You dont need that extra stress, so i hope you find out that you can feed him.
Get well soon

Thanks Kim,Lecia and Val.u guys are wonderful.ur words of support and encouragement makes me go on.i still have some discharge which stains my panty which looks yellowish but no smell like before.while in the sitz bath today,i had some seepage which i didnt even realise.hope its transient.it hasnt happened before.has it happened to any of u all after LIS?Bms dont hurt more but its the pain afterwards which is bad.but it is subsiding within 45mins at the most.i take pain killers roundthe clock.val,i do need the antibiotics and will not stop but here everyone has a different opinion.many say its safe but some dont like to take a risk.now my son wanted a feed and kept on crying.feel so miserable!its easy for others to say stop feeding but they have no idea wat goes through a baby and mother's mind.we'll try the bottle feeding again n if he doesnt take it,i have to consider feeding him as many say its ok but ill feed him just at night.
so sweet of u lecia for remebering me.when i was in the hosp i kept on thinking about u guys and how much i missed posting on this forum.kim, did u have pain after bms after lis/like a burning pain?for how long did it last/im drinking more whole fruit juices and water and less solids.

YES! Pinky, I had BM pain for about a week, it was rough, but *my* surgeon warned me it would be rough.
I ALWAYS" had a hot bath ready to jump into right after my BM...you need to do that AND take pain killers about twenty minutes before your BM, so they'll be kicking in at the right time...
Planning makes perfect!!
You are gonna be ALRIGHT a lot sooner than you think!! Just watch!!

Well, somebody has to run this board!
(And nudge the other admin along! :lecia: Image ) We still have a number who are healed here (from fissures) who still hang around.
The worst was over in about a week for me, but if you take a little longer, that's OK. Everyone is different, some are better in a few days!!
You describe what I went through. The burning pain was awful, but mine subsided after about 10-30 minutes. Does yours?

I know it is hard with the breastfeeding. When my last daughter was born and I had the nerve injury my family tried to talk me out of breastfeeding saying it would be too much stress but for me it was about all I could do for her and it kept me sane and was better for her. I heard conflicting advice about what meds were safe to use so I just went with my gut and fed her anyway and just looked for any signs that it was affecting her.
One thing that made me feel better after a bath was to use a hairdryer on my bum and try to go without underwear or pants just to let the area air out. I don't know if you have the privacy to do that but if so, I would maybe try it.
