i just wanted to stop in for the first time in awhile. i'm still in pain pretty much everyday unfortunately. it ceased for about 2 weeks and then started right back up again last week. it's back with avengeance today. sooo painful i'm having a hard time sitting at my desk. it almost feels like burning today...like a bomb went off in my a**. i'm still using the HC suppositories, but it's been almost 30 days now and i know i need to stop soon even though the GI said use it for 6 weeks.
i know this will never get better so now i'm just trying to get used to it and accept it. you'd think i'd already be used to it after 2 1/2 years but i guess you never can. i hope everyone else is doing well and finally finding some relief while i just can't seem to catch a break. sigh. i hope one day i'll be back with a great successful healing story.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I know this is hard on you. Do you think the HC suppositories are making it burn more? The reason I ask is that I used them for a long time and then one day my bottom just started burning and I had a reaction to it.
Did anything happen prior to this setback you can put you finger on. I know it is frustrating when you have a good run and then you feel like you were right back where you started but what I have to remind myself when that happens is that it IS possible to feel better and those stretches will become more frequent. You have proof. You didn't think you would feel better ever and you did for awhile. You will get that back again. I know the ups and downs of this is taxing on every part of your being. But don't give up. You will catch a break. Image

i'm not sure if the suppositories make it burn more....it's definitely possible. i was feeling so good the first 2 weeks i was using them regularly. i have NO idea what caused the setback last week! i did have a more formed than normal BM and maybe that triggered some inflammation and it just hasn't stopped since. last night i tried using 2 suppos. at the same time before bed. maybe i overdid it. today the BM hurt really bad, not ripping but really scraping more than usual.

lecia - after you had a reaction to HC and stopped using it, did things go back to "normal" (i know normal for you is bad but still...) how long did you use them for?

Good point Tootie !
I have overused HC many a time too - it eventually caused a burning rash for me so take note Juney - Also the fact is does thin the skin
Use vaseline internal if you can that should help with BM and help with the burn Image
I would think it will settle down quickly once you stop the supp....
Those good days will come back around Juney Image

I was using them every day for about a month and then it just started burning so bad! I stopped and within a week it was better. They helped for awhile though but then I think I just overdid it. Maybe you could back off to every other day.
Do you think maybe taking an anti-inflammatory might help?

ok good advice guys. i'll cut back on the suppositories and see how things go. i totally thought they were my miracle fix since things went so well for 2 weeks...oh well back to the drawing board.
lecia - i brought up the idea of taking an oral anti-inflam. to the GI dr but he said it wouldn't make a difference. the inflammation's confined to the last inch or so of the anus so i guess that's why..

i'm having a sigmoidoscopy tomorrow. they just called and had a cancellation so they were able to get me in early. i'm really nervous about the prep. i'm thinking i just won't do all of it, like drinking the magnesium citrate. not to mention, not eating today will be tough! it's such a delicate balance for me to keep the inflammation at bay...the thought of having liquid stool tomorrow morning freaks me out. i'm afraid it will set me back, but i really want to get in and see this dr again...
any advice would be appreciated!

Yeah, good luck, Juney. I hope that this gives you some answers and reassurance. Vaseline or A&D ointment would make a great barrier so you don't get sore. But I think with a sigmoid you don't have to do a full clean out? So hopefully it will be quick. Image
