I have a new idea, Steve. Maybe surgical medical residents preparing to be a CRS should have to endure experiencing an A/F AND have to undergo LIS just so they can better counsel their patients and better understand what is really involved with the surgery!

Hey Steve, ya your ass is going to have a mind of its own for a while :) Just curious: what's the most comfortable position for you these days? In the weeks after surgery I always thought standing up felt the best. Well I guess more like second best behind sitting in the tub. It sounds like maybe your rear has decided that standing isn't going to be its favorite position.
For me, lying down always felt GREAT for the first 2-3 minutes or so, but after that my butt would hurt and I'd feel sharp stinging pains. Sitting down on a nice fluffy pillow actually felt pretty good for the first few moments too, but then soreness would quickly set in. If you're sitting for any length of time on any type of surface, you're probably doing alright, so don't get discouraged. Yeah I'm not sure where the 1-2 week figure comes from either haha. I'm sure it happens but only to those with buns of steel.

Cheryl, I couldn't agree with you more! They have no idea of how painful these issues are. Unless it happens to you, it doesn't seem like a big deal.
I just couldn't believe it when the doctor told me that there's nothing to the surgery and you'll be sore for the first few days. I wanted to ask him if he's had it or did he go home with his patients while they recovered?
Steve, I hope you feel better soon!

NG..
Standing is actually my best position, sitting for any length of time causes pain, except in the tub, as for lying down it's ok, just if I lie on my left side it feels like my anus is going to open up wide... Freaky!! I also get a moist feeling when the sphincter is very relaxed, the best position for sleep is on my back which is my preferred position anyway.
I am sitting for longer these past few days which is better, the first few weeks I could hardly sit so things must be improving, I don't think my sphincter has forgiven me yet lol

Where they get 2 weeks ??? Hmmmm ...
If one thinks rationally- there is NO way they can actually REally think what they say, since anus needs about 2-3 mos. just for a alllll swelling to come down completely (and they know that since I was told that by CRS ). Second- fissure needs to heal and it takes 6-8 weeks at best for THAT to happen ( they also know that) !!!! So, in my humble opinion, LOL, I think that when they say 1-2 weeks recovery period they assume that one would be able to walk and go to work 2 weeks post op. . In pain and discomfort - yes :(, but able to function Image . They do not mean one would be "like nothing happened " , ; ), oh no, no way LOL

Hey Fissy, I believe what you say over any CRS Image It's true though, this will take months to completely calm down, healing is already taking place, it's just a slow process, even if it takes 6 months to get better, that's nothing compared to the 2 years of suffering!

The past two days have been reasonably good, my BM's have been of decent size and easily passed, I have introduced another stool softener into my regimen (Ispaghula Husk) which bulks up the stool a bit, I take it at around dinner time then take Movicol at night, this has helped me get rid of more poop in one go rather than go multiple times, I'm still keeping with the high fibre foods but adding some normal foods in too, this seems to be working ok and I'm not visiting the bathroom 5 times a day which causes irritation, I'm still trying to achieve that illusive "perfect poop" .. work in progress!

26 days post-op and I'm still getting mild discomfort from both the LIS site and the fissure site, the LIS site is like a stinging pricking sensation and the fissure site is stinging/burning, it's not really intense pain just annoying, I'm wondering how long this kind of discomfort is going to last, I'm doing everything possible to keep the stools soft but they still irritate sometimes then the pain lingers through the day, it's a bit like when my fissure was acting up months ago which is worrying and making me think if the surgery was actually successful or not, I will have to wait until my 6 weeks check up to find out one way or the other, there's still 2 weeks before that so I could be considerably better by then... hopefully!
P.S. Back on the Ibuprofen...
I really thought I'd be getting relief by now, although I am having good days as well as bad, it just doesn't seem enough considering the pain suffered going through the surgery, I was in less pain before surgery than I am now which is worrying to say the least.
I have internal stitches and have no idea when they will dissolve or even if they already have, nor do I know how long the swelling lasts, the lack of information given by the docs is ridiculous, apart from parting my anus and having a look for myself which I'm not going to do there is nothing I can do until I get to see my CRS, I'll have a few questions on that day!

Steve,
I'm sorry that you are discouraged about your progress. You and so many others here have been through so much both mentally and physically. Hopefully, you will start feeling better very soon.
Two things--I just created a contest and declared you the winner! You have the best avatars! I asked my husband if Moses was in a basket, and he replied in the affirmative!!
Secondly, I'm not saying this to boast, but to give encouragement to you and anyone else--every time I go to the church in my son's pharm school city (where I was this past weekend) it makes me recall how I felt about 2 years ago (while having butt/A/F isssues). I didn't feel at that time that I could sit comortably all morning for everything my son always wants to attend. And I also remember having blood during one of those past visits. Now two years later I'm eating everything I want with no worries about butt issues--no pain or blood AND have been able to greatly decrease the amount of Movicol/Miralax I am taking.
There are many, many others like me who used to post here during their bad butt times, but now they've left to enjoy their respective pain-free lives!! I'm sure everyone who's still here will eventually get to that point, and each person can continue to use this wonderful forum to vent and learn from others until each one can get to 100% healing.
I'll say some special prayers for healing for you and also share how you are feeling with Dwight--can't hurt anything!!!! Image
