Heck no you're not hijacking my thread, I asked the question, silly!! :D Does the surgeon you saw on Tuesday know you've had a four-year history of fissures? If he did maybe he'd be more willing to take action. I know when I told the nurse at the CRS's office it had been five years for me, she said--Oh yeah, it's time.
They STILL haven't called! Everytime the phone rings, I jump. I am so ready to just schedule it....I wish I'd thought to ask if he had any idea how long it might be, like a general sense of whether it might be days, weeks, or months before I could get it done! My kids' spring break is a little over a month away and I can't make plans. My husband keeps asking me what my plans are for this or that, and I want to strangle him! Life is just on hold for me until I get this dealt with.
I haven't bothered to tell the kids that anything's about to happen...does anyone have any idea what the best thing to tell them might be? Anyone who's had the surgery who also has kids? My kids range in age from 5 to 10. I've already decided not to tell them it was butt surgery...you know how kids this age are, they'd probably laugh their heads off, either that or develop a phobia of butt surgery at a young age.
I think I'll just say that I had surgery on my private area to fix something that happened when I had baby Cora. The only downside to this, is that my kids are all girls and I don't want to make them scared of having babies...
I'm probably overthinking this, I guess it will all work itself out. Sorry for the ramble!

I'm thankful for this every day since the appointment! Although, I still have to survive the ultimate poking; with a knife!! Image

I have twin 5 year old girls. I am into my 6th year of butt issues (mainly fissures) so they are used to me soaking and complaining off and on to my wife.
I told them I am having surgery (2 total now) on my bottom and that I have an owey(sp?) that won't heal. They even came with my wife to my LIS and met the surgeon afterwards in the recovery when I was waking up. So I guess I have never tried to hide the facts. Just try to explain it to them in simple terms. I have been asked some amusing questions. :D
For my LIS, I finally had to call the them back after about 2 weeks had gone by to get on the schedule. I assume a LIS is low priority in terms of surgeries they perform since they are also dealing with people with cancer, people needing bowel resections, etc.

Right! I was thinking the same thing...anyone with cancer is more than welcome to go to the head of the line. But I'm giving them until Monday before I call, just to be sure they didn't forget about me...
I'm less worried about explaining the surgery to my five year old, I guess, than I am the 8 and 10 year olds! Now they'll be the ones asking some crazy questions!

Ya, calling is a good idea. Even after I called it still took them another 2 days to finally call me back with a date. Was somewhat frustrating since once you decide to take the plunge the date is important.
Ya, I could see 8 and 10 being more challenging in explaining the situation.....

my CRS at the time of my visit on 12/13 offered me 3 dates right then and there. one was for january, one was in february, and one was for march.
i am so glad i took the january one. i just needed a couple of hours to think it over and i emailed my CRS to book it. it was like almost making a hotel reservation! LOL.
hopefully alpine you can hang on the line and just be persistent to see if they can give you some options right then and there.

I never hide it from my 6 year old either Paul. I just kind of laugh when I talk to her about it. She knows it's something we don't scream about and tell the world, but I just kind of made it humorous for her, and that is so awesome you have twins:)
Alpine,
I would call the CRS back too. They told me if I didn't get a call in a couple of days to call them, but I agree, we are low on the priorities with the fissures :(

congrats on deciding on the Lis Alpine!!!
I just want to say about the whole issue on telling your kids, i get the whole fear thing and you dont want them to worry about there bits BUT.... i know if i was informed of what can happen by my parents years ago about butt issues i think i would not be in this situation as i have been more careful and/or gone to the doctor straight away. (not saying in anyway that its there fault) I know when my daughter gets older enough i will be teaching her these things, if ya get my drift.
I hope they can do your Lis soon

I've actually used this as a way of teaching my kids how important it is to eat the veggies and get their fiber, because I know without a doubt in my circumstances if I would have been eating right and taking care of myself, this wouldn't have happened. I realize that's not the case with everyone, though.

It's been two weeks since my consultation and still no date set! I had to call back again this morning and leave a voicemail with the lady who does the scheduling. I mean I'd love to procrastinate and keep putting this off, but that will never get the job done, will it?
It's frustrating. I'm nervous about the surgery but the only way to get through that, is to just get it done!
