I agree, don't put it off, keep pressing for a date, you owe it to yourself.
It's obvious you're going to be nervous, I was!! But you'll be glad you had it done in the long term, trust me.
Best wishes ~ Steve

Thanks Steve! I finally got my day! Wednesday March 23rd at 2:00. It's not really an ideal day or time, but I didn't want to put it off until later. It only gives me a week and a half to recover before my kids are on spring break, so I guess we won't be taking any trips, but c'est la vie.
I have to be there at noon, and they told me to plan on giving myself 2-4 hours after the surgery to come out of the anesthesia! That seems like overkill, since it won't be a full general, just the valium like they do for colonoscopies. I mean I think it only took me a couple of hours to get over the full-on GA I had when I did the sinus surgery/septoplasty.
I just hope it will be worth all the time, trouble, and money!

Go Alpine!
Congrats!! Really happy for you. That's not too long to wait. Mine wasn't an ideal date either, and then it was moved forward at the last minute. Lots of rushing!
It will be worth it.

Good that you got the date scheduled. Now you have time to make preparations. Pick up a few simple things to pamper yourself with, because pampering MUST promote healing! Image Plus some movies for the kids during the spring break... Or something to keep the entertained and busy!

Congratulations! I was happy too when the CRS actually agreed to perform LIS on me (others refused me flat down and prattled on only about incontinence so much that I began to suspect them of enjoying to see people in pain.) I agree, a general anesthesia is better, not the full one but the lighter version. My CRS told me that the spinal anesthesia would be the best option but I simply cannot do it. I DON'T want to be awake when they start cutting me!
It would be at 2 p.m.? I wonder if the restriction about not eating or drinking anything prior would still apply. It drove me crazy once when I waited for three days on a row, not drinking or eating anything, only to see a nurse coming (late afternoon, of course) and telling me they would not cut me that day after all. Anyway, it would be worth, I'm sure.
And think you'll have plenty of time to make up for this to your children. :D

Thanks everyone!
I shall pamper myself with lots of baths and library books. Luckily I've never dropped one in the bath yet.. Image
I'm a little worried about my seedlings though. I'm an avid vegetable gardener and this is the time of year when I start my transplants. They are down in the basement and I usually check them multiple times per day. I hope they don't die of neglect! Are the stairs going to kill me after the surgery?
To my way of thinking, the pain of the surgery can't be much worse than what I've already gone through, right? I hope that's true.
I agree about the spinal anesthesia--no way. I've had three epidurals for childbirth and I would never do another one willingly. Just knock me out and wake me up when you're done!
The eating restrictions do apply--I'm supposed to eat very lightly for 24 hours beforehand anyway to prep (no enema!! Image) That won't be hard for me. I'm not a big eater anyway, and I'll be too nervous to eat much.
We do have netflix so there will be plenty of movies for the kids. Our weather here is not warm during break so normally I'd take the kids to the museum or the nature center, or get away to visit my aunt's house in the country, three hours away. I just hope I'm not a total lump. The kids will survive, but the cabin fever gets so bad, all they'll do is fight.
But I'll just be so glad it's done, maybe I won't even care if they trash the house!

Good luck Alpine! I had the spinal with one and Sana with 2 others (1 of them was when he just looked and didn't do anything). The spinal was good as you felt nothing, but then I had to remain in hospital for hours afterward until the feeling started to come back to my legs. It also caused me constipation later, not good.
As for the SANA when I went in in February, they did not give me enough. I felt and heard a lot. The pain wasn't too bad, I just didn't like being so alert. This last surgery on Friday, I had the same SANA nurse and told him "MORE DRUGS!" He told me he felt he gave enough and I said I wanted to be just a little more out if it and described what I felt and heard. Well he listened as I don't remember them shoving the resperator up my nose (tubes), or having to flip around on beds with their help, or any pain. Lovely. So moral of the story if you are going for SANA, ask for lots! It took me about an hour to fully wake up in recovery, but that was way better than 4 hours from the spinal (which is a much smaller needle than when in labour and really doesn't hurt to insert). One thing I do remember though was 2 other doctors walking in with my CRS. I think they were students. I remember him saying stuff about my interal sphincter, levator ani muscle, etc. And I think 1 of the students may have done the slicing! I don't know if I was dreaming or not understanding, I guess I'll need to find out on my check up. You'd think that they would need permission to operate on you if they were not your doctor right? Oh well, so far so good still.

Mmmm, vegetables! I used to grow veggies too. I love the whole ordering seeds/seedling phase...
I bet the seedlings will do better than you imagine, with only one check a day or two. Besides that, if your oldest child is 10 (?as I remember?), you could have them do a chore or two with the seedlings IF you can't make it down the stairs, and when you feel better, you can reward them with a treat for the odd chores that they do for you while you are layed up.

Bumbutt, that's genius! They already do some chores, and I didn't think to add that one to the list but I will. I guess the seedlings are my babies but I will have to relinquish some control and learn to delegate.
DH, I hope you're doing okay! What a weird experience...I think I'd be pi**ed off if a whole bunch of unexpected people showed up in the room during my butt surgery. They should definitely have to ask permission!
I am a little worried that the sedation will be too light, because I woke up when I was having my impacted wisdom teeth extracted. Fortunately it really wasn't painful, I just didn't like being so aware of what they were doing. But honestly, for this surgery, I don't know if I care. If the CRS would have said to me during the consultation visit that he could give me some locals and do it then and there in his office, I would have agreed.
