Hello from GB

Postby Gypsy60 » 03 Apr 2012, 05:45

I have had my fissure for a few years now & in January I had botox. Worse thing i could have done as I could feel where it paralised the muscle as if I had a hard lump there. I now seem to have what looks like a large tag that I didn't have before. I am also in constant pain more then I ever had with just the fissure. Can't stand, sit etc. I was told that surgery was a last resort & that they don't like females having it done. Not seeing consultant now for 3 months. Desperate as it is causing me problems with work

I don't know why some docs keep spreading this 'poop' about LIS causing incontinence in women. It's only a tiny bit more of a rare possibility. All they have to do is check your sphincter muscle and see if it is working well, aka strong enough. At least that's what my second opinion crs said. There are plenty of ladies on this forum who have had it done, and are glad they did.
I'm not one of them, but I just want to reassure you that some docs seem to be looking at old statistics or something... They are talking about LIS aren't they?
Did the lump go away?
What did they say the botox pain was from? Was it from the lump?
Can't you call your doc and ask about cancellations you could fill? I find here in Canada, if you call once a week it's not enough to get on their nerves, but enough to let them know just how desperate you are feeling.
the 'sqeaky wheel gets all the oil' theory in action.
You could look up 'self dilation' here and see what you think of that. It isn't something we particularly like doing, but it seems to help everyone who tries it. Only takes 10 min a day. The hard part for me really, is finding the privacy to do it.
another thing that helps is an electric heating pad. Can you take one to work and sit on it in breaks?
You might also try some aloe gel. maybe do a search her about that too.
Hope something changes for the better for you soon Gypsy!

I know just how you feel and I am in a similar place. Got the Diliazem on Friday.
This is second time around for me. Had Botox about 6/7 years ago when the GTN cream just didnt work anymore and the daily pain became unbearable. There followed even worse pain and hell for about 6 weeks... but I did eventually heal. There was talk that I was allergic to the Botox who knows! Anyway, I have managed for 6/7 years to keep the fissure from coming back by looking after my bum carefully, always cleaning/moisturising the area after BM with Vasaline and by not getting constipated. It did start up from time to time but when I felt it coming back (after a couple of hard stools) I got some GTN cream for use for a couple of weeks and was very careful about what I ate. No alcohol etc and got even more fastidious with my routine to include vasaline before and after BM. All good till this year when I thought I had piles so used some standard issue cream which had a local anesthetic in but also a steroid which I think thinned the skin over the fissure and opened it up. Pain worsened over several weeks of trying to settle it down and more GTN cream but to no avail. Past the point of no return I fear. Saw the Consultant last week and have a tube of the Anoheal (Diltiazen) but is it just me or does it make the pain worse after a BM? The Consultant did say it would take 6 weeks to heal and its only been three days. I dont know how much more of this I can take. Everyday BM followed by 4-6 hours of pain. Ibuprofen tablets 3 at a time - they dont work but too frightened to take anything that will make me constipated. It is misery every day! I am a tough old bird dont even have injections at the dentist but this pain is so distracting I cant deal witrh it. Warm baths dont help really any relief is short lived. I work from home thank goodness coz standing up is like having a stabbing pain ( small kitchen knife being stuck into an open wound again and again..) so I dont go out in the mornings till the pain backs off.
I am worried I wont heal, that Fissure no2 in scar tissue from Fissure No1 is too deep. Will keep on with the cream and post how I get on . Good luck to you and everyone else whos out there trying to heal.
