Re: Miralax

I have been using it for 3 months. I find by the third day off things go a little back to a bad place for me. Miralax and Nitro have been the biggest difference makers for me to date. My doctor says stay on it for as long as needed to fully heal and not superficially heal.

My CRS discouraged me from using any laxatives unless and until it is absolutely necessary. She did suggest Miralax if I ever were to use it. She was insistent to achieve the intended results through diet. I am trying the high fiber high fluid intake and some days it works and some days it doesn't for no real reason. So I had to look for an alternative.
I tried Miralax this morning and followed through with my regular water intake. I started with only half a cup to see how I react to it. I had a BM some time ago, though the tip was a little hard, the rest of my poop was surprisingly very soft. I am glad I was able to see results so soon. Hopefully in the next couple days even the hard tip would go away.
I have a follow-up with my CRS next week and I will check with her about prolonged use of Miralax.
Thank you all for your input and your encouragement to try it :D

Miralax seems to be the one pharmaceutical that is most helpful for AF sufferers. It keeps a lot of us with a balanced soft BM and helps avoid the dreaded hard stool and worse still constipation. I currently have 17g in the morning and will continue until I am healed. I use it more frequently when I travel as I always have trouble with constipation when I change my normal routine. I hope I will be able to reduce it to just using it when I travel. But I am not healed...yet! xx Pia

Delasama - not taking it at night makes sense as you would not get enough water during the night. Let us know if you see any difference with decreased dosage.

I eased up on miralax and poop was bulky and scary! I'm going to take at least a half capful in mornings and then a full cap at dinner. I'm doing a lot better though since I've been on miralax. I'm going to keep chugging the miralax though.had a little pain after bm this morning and had flash backs to my old crazy fissure spasms that I had before miralax.

I agree with Suzy on this. There is no shortage of pharmaceuticals out there that people are willing to take for the rest of their lives if need be with far higher toxicity profiles than Miralax has. If our doctor prescribes us something for our high blood pressure after we've already tried diet, exercise, stress reduction, etc., are we going to refuse it based on the extensive list of potential adverse reactions (which for most medicines is a pretty long list)? We could refuse of course, and take our chances on a heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, etc. But if there is something available that helps to ease our own suffering and to the best of our available knowledge the benefits outweigh the risks, I would rather use the tool in the toolbox that is available and useful. Of course we'd all like our bodies to function naturally and without any trouble or pain right up until the last day of our lives, but in reality bodies get sick, develop diseases, injuries, etc., and sometimes they get better and sometimes they don't, but either way, I'm just grateful to have some things I can turn to that help.

Look on the upper left and lower left of the page for the little blue box with the sunshine that says new topic. Click on that and that should get you there. If you are using a tablet you may need to change the format of the page to traditional.
