Hi Kathy,:)
Really pleased to read your surgery went well and you are back in the comfort of your own home.
Everything will be a bit uncomfortable for the first few days, that's totally normal. Just try to keep full pressure off the area for a while even if it means spending most of your time lying on your more comfortable side. Just get as comfortable as you can - lying on your stomach should be fine. I found lying on my back with the pressure off my bottom and my knees up quite comfortable too. If you can walk around a bit, that's excellent for promoting the blood flow to help heal the area.
For breakfast, porridge/ oatmeal/ weetabix is excellent and a bit of brown toast is good. Eat some fruit or bio yogurt with it too and lots of fruit juice/ herbal teas.
If you feel any pain, take pain killers and if you find passing stools hurts at all, take a pain killer a while before the BM to numb any discomfort. Just take it easy, rest and make yourself comfortable for the first 2-3 days, after that things will hopefully begin to feel better for you and you'll start to develop a routine. Just be patient with your healing and things will improve by the week! I know the Seton may take a little getting used to but it will be only temporary and hopefully you will get an appointment through for your next check-up with that.
Reborn - Constipation needs to be avoided at all costs for sure, even without a fistula because it can do a lot of damage! - I had a chronic fissure too and that is even worse than a fistula in my opinion because it's a lot more painful and takes a lot longer to heal! Given the "choice" I know which one I'd go for out of the two!!....Unfortunately, it's not constipation that actually causes a fistula but generally the abscess, which is caused by bacteria-filled anal glands. (amongst other reasons) My CRS advised me that if there is no underlying cause (such as an immune deficiency disease/ intestinal disease & inflamation etc.) then it can be simply bad luck!!! I'm even more meticulous in my post-BM cleaning these days than ever, now I'm aware of this fact!!
