stress definately played a huge part in making things worse for me - if i had a stressful day it even bled more too. I can understand it would make spasms worse because stress makes muscles clench up.
I'm glad you got an appointment quickly, if he gives you any of the creams they take at least a week to kick in.
In the meantime changing your diet ,gradually upping the fibre and taking lots of baths should help a bit until wednesday. Sitting on a hot water bottle helps too!

Oh, yes, stress will really cause this thing to get out of control at times. It can mess with your regularity and cause more spasms as Val mentioned. I am glad you got in to see a specialist so quickly. I think you will get on the right track soon. The one thing about dealing with a fissure is that you do have to stay on top of it in regards to good toilet habits, eating right, using the cream that is prescribed and doing that baths.

You might want to try a small magnesium supplement which can help your muscles to relax and it also aids in elimination.

As for diet, it is important to eat soft foods, so cooked veggies are the way to go. Avoid raw, crunchy veggies.
Yogurt is a good thing.
You need to make sure you get the RDA of fiber every day, but don't overdo it or your stools will get bulky and that's not good!

you know whats weird,i never really had much luck with the sitz baths...maybe they were working and i didnt notice it,but i never got out the tub and said that was a damn good sitz bath....i think the metamucil helped me alot with starting a regular "time to go" in the evenings, and making the poo soft but not like the runs, def try to avoid the runs...and try to get the nitro cream, get the good 2%, they started me on .05%,wasnt really good for anything, heck,i could have used that for chap stik....the 2% was the real deal, stuff started feeling better right away! execpt for the headachs, but id rather have them than the butt pain..

he he Dano - maybe you should have some guppies in the tub Image - they would make you smile and you would have relaxed and had a GRAT soak Image !!!
And yes- I agree - the stronger Nitro the better LOL !!! What is "any ache" in comparison to fissure pain Image ???
Andy - sorry buddy to inform you - no magic bullet will work fast :( . BUT- the patience and perseverance are the only way out of this madness !!!
Yes, stress definitely can not help Image - ask for some muscle relaxants - might help. Actually one of my CRSs prescribed Valium together with Nitro and I was stupid enough to avoid it Image Image Image . Oh well - we all learn as long as we live , I guess..
Best of luck Image

fissy's right andy, nothing is a "magic" solution and it may take awhile before any one thing does the trick. you do need to have a lot of patience and try everything everyone's mentioned, in addition to what your CRS will tell you. if it becomes chronic, surgery may be necessary but i'm sure you've already read all about that. good luck!

its very important to have belief in what you are doing andy so i hope you have full faith in the analpram.
i have never used it but as with everything all of us have gone through, it's like creams are only half the battle. the other half is the diet and how you deal with stress.
so hopefully you are now on a good consistent fiber intake of about 40g per day and that you can maintain a low level of stress. along with your cream, you should have a good benefit doing all three.
good luck - and don't hurry yourself as much as you'd like to get this over - your body will do it on its own time.

Anapram is just hydrocortisone with a numbing agent. It really isn't going to help a fissure I am afraid but can help with general irritation and hemorrhoids. If it is a fissure diltiazem, nifedipine or nitroglycerin are the first line of defense.
