Pafen, I too have a mouth guard I wear at night. My teeth and jaw can ache all day from clenching at night.

I can feel most of my pain from the scar of the big fissure I got from my flap surgery. What can be done for it??
I am still waiting for an appointment to be seen by the pelvic physiology team. I feel like I've been left in limbo.

Alyssa, have you found any good cushions to sit on?? I have heard someone mention a ' valley' cushion..... But they are very expensive.

Just thought I'd let everyone know regarding the pain management. My physiotherapist said most of her patients are on lyrica around 450mg/day and they would never consider dropping down even after their symptoms have improved.

When I told her I was only on 75mg of lyrica she was surprised I could manage on that. Well I probably could but I do get these flare ups where I end up having to rest on the bed with my heat pad.

Perhaps with the higher dosage of lyrica the pain can be better managed. It's just an option I guess anyway.

I have another friend who had rectal cancer and chronic pain from all the scarring. Even she says, if she drops the lyrica below 450mg she can start to feel the burning again.

Owmybum, probably better off keeping the pain under control with some medications then grinding our teeth away!

Of course always follow the advice of your doctor but don't be surprised or give up on the medical treatment side of things until you get your pain meds up to a therapeutic level that works for many.

Please someone, can anyone give me some idea what is wrong with my rectum? Nothing is ever found on examination except very recently where a thrombosed hem or varicosity (dr not sure) presented on anus. Internally I have had pain for 6 months following 2 fissurectomies, and LIS. Since that day I have never been right. I feel burning, sharp pain on the sides of my rectal wall (deep I think) which might explain why docs don't see anything

I have been receiving pelvic floor therapy which has not helped and even had to have an MUA and steroid injection of my coccyx as sitting caused problems for me after the op. I begin again with another CRS in a couple of weeks. Does anyone think it could be vascular or muscular.

Any ideas, anyone had this symptom? Any treatment that has worked. I am so fed up. My quality of life has changed so much and I used to think it was temporary, I now wonder. :thanx:

I believe scar tissue can be stretched via massage to make it more flexible like normal tissue. I am not game to do this though as I don't want to risk a major flare up.

I think I see my pain specialist on the 2nd of June to hopefully organize a botox injection.

Another thing you can try for those that are males is a course of antibiotics for chronic prostatitis. I am yet to do this but a urologist said we could try a 6 week course.

Funnily whenever I am on antibiotics for something else it helps with my pelvic pain as well. Pain always returned though.

Try to eliminate your rectum fully each day. I find any left behind stool irritates the hyper sensitive scar tissue I believe.

Botox helped relax my pelvic floor muscles and has reduced my pain during bm's; the pain that I continue to suffer is burning sitting pain. My butt and sacral area starts to burn when there is pressure applied; a spinal doctor basically said that I have somatic pain! Basically means that the nerves in the pelvis are misfiring; my next appointment (june 8) my doctor and I will discuss medications since they could help with toning down the nerves misfirings. I continue to do physical therapy hopefully one day I will be cured from this pain!

I bought a Cushion from amazon.. But I don't think it helps me much.

I also have been using a heating pad this week to help with blood circulation.

Hi,

Yes the heat pad helps. I use mine first thing in the morning before I have a bowel movement. This helps to relax my already tight pelvic floor. Then I use it in the evening again.

Alyssa,

I was doing pretty good till I picked up a cold from my nephew. This of course meant I wasn't able to exercise to my usual levels. Resulted in some constipation/straining issues, then bam, the pain flared up again.

I have just gotten over my cold now, started going for short jogs and physio stretches again. Things are still a bit flared up, about 2 weeks now but will hopefully settle down.

That's the only thing that keeps me going sometimes when the pain is bad. I always remember the patches where my pain levels are quite bearable.

Physio has identified the main muscle I have in spasm is the obturator internus.

Sexual activity also somewhat reduces my pain levels for a few days. It could be that perhaps the pelvic floor muscles become relaxed. The other side of the coin is being male, it's got me thinking about prostatitis. Perhaps some of the infection from my past surgeries spread to the prostate and now the bacteria is encased there. Very hard for antibiotics to penetrate into the prostate tissue.

I also have a donut cushion for when I drive the car, but the hole offers no support for the rectum which could be a bad thing. I just use a soft cushion with no hole in the middle.

Alyssa,

I have decided to a put a time limit now on each thing I try. For example if I am not cured or greatly improved by the physiotherapy I will ditch that and move onto the next thing.

The pelvis is so complex, it's mind boggling all the possible causes for our pain.
