Yeah the Sports Medicine Centre at your Uni sounds just the type of thing, GG. When I was a competitive athlete I was helped by physios at several Football Clubs in the UK, and even managed to get some part-time coaching work with a couple of them afterwards...so you never know! ;-)

Still very up and down for me, unfortunately. Had an awful day yesterday, one of my worst since the very early days of my fissure, yet, don't feel anything like as bad today. That's another aspect of AF's that plays havoc with your mindset...Hadn't realised you could get psychiatrist appointments over the net, something to bear in mind, especially if it turns out that my LIS has failed, so thanks for that, GG!

Hi GG
Well I guess it's positive in the fact that you now know what was the root cause of this. Also it can be treated even if it does take surgery the main thing is that it can be fixed. You never know it might just need some targeted exercises and not having to go under the knife.
Is there another form of exercise you could do until you feel stronger, how about swimming. I loved yoga but know I can't do it anymore due to the fissure. Maybe some Pilates as they help with pelvic floor etc. Just a thought as I know how frustrating it can be. I have never stayed in my house longer than two days until I got this fissure. But we have to keep fighting to carry on as much as we can even if it's in a different way.
Good luck Hun

Thanks guys.

Sorry things aren't going so well Mr.F. Can you tell if it's the incision or the fissure causing you the pain? Is it worse when standing?

Mpb I'm going to try some swimming, that's a great idea! Thanks

I had my follow up with my surgeon yesterday and she doesn't feel any need to see me any more. She says everything looks as though it's healing fine and the abscess is much smaller and softer and that because it is just superficial (from the inscision site) it should just go away. She thinks that's all that's causing me pain and blew off the idea of any prolapse or perineal descent. She thinks biofeedback will help with my incomplete bms, but I still think there's a pelvic issue other than tension during bowel movements. I will be going to another physio to get a second opinion.

I also asked her about the gastroenterologist referral, as she said she would do something on that front. However she "spoke to my old gastro" and thinks that the main component is "anxiety".

I'm so frustrated that they keep telling me this. I've been keeping a symptom diary and the pain and bloating hits me between 2-4 pm daily and lasts for 2-3 hours then turns into discomfort. No matter what I've been eating or what activity I'm doing. Even if I have no idea what time it is lol. I'm doing everything I can to reduce anxiety so clearly that's not enough. I'm trying an increased dose of amytriptyline (10 mg at night and 10 in the morning) to see how that goes. Judging by the stomach pressure and gnawing pain I get around the same time daily, it sounds like h pylori to me but they all think I'm just nuts thanks to the gastroenterologist.

Right now, the stomach pain is limiting my life much more than the butt pain, so that's something. Past two days I have even jogged a little. The surgeon said 100% go ahead with weightlifting etc (still not sure about that) so I'm easing into exercise slowly and the pain is mostly staying away.

Hey GG, it's good news that the surgeon thinks you're healing up well. Also good to hear that the bum pain is easing. I'm not sure that colorectal doctors know a lot about the pelvic floor (as well as other specialists). The first CRS I saw said the internal sphincter can't be helped much by pelvic physical therapy, a statement that had my pelvic physio say 'how idiotic' like a broken record. The sphincter doesn't just exist in isolation. It's surrounded by muscles that affect its state.

As for anxiety being the cause, that sounds like something a doctor says when they don't have an explanation for what's going wrong. People are generally intuitive about their own bodies and if you feel something besides 'anxiety' is the cause then they should help you find the answer.

Your symptoms remind me of stomach problems I had back in 2009. Every evening around 5 I would get a lot of gas and bloating. I don't remember what my BMs were like at the time, probably loose. This went on for a few weeks Eventually the problem went away, I thought it may have been amoeba, but now I think that I really don't know what it was.
8/16-12/16: Fissure due to antibiotics
5/17: Botox to sphincter, fissure healed
9/19: Trigger point injections and pudendal nerve block
11/19: Botox to pelvic floor
8/20: Botox to pelvic floor in new location.
Currently in pelvic physical therapy

Thanks for the reply patience and healing. I'm definitely going to get a second opinion on the physio. I do trust my physio but I figure if two of them tell me I have a problem I must have a problem. I do think a lot of the butt pain i still have is from the dang abscess, hopefully it will just clear up.

Thanks for the reassurance about the stomach pain. I really feel like there is something going on but sometimes the doctors make me think I'm crazy. I'm hoping a new gastro will be a possibility and we'll get to the bottom of it...so weird how it's cyclical like this. I'm thankful that I don't have pain all of the time and that I can be more active now but still not much of a full life like this.

For those with ibs, I've mentioned before these audio hypnotherapy recordings called "ibs100" - it's 100 days of several different sessions about 30 min long each. I'm finding it very very helpful - it maybe hasn't reduced my pain but has definitely helped me to care less about it, if that makes sense. They're also excellent for anxiety and just good meditation aids overall. Worth a try for those suffering with digestive issues. I'm on around day 20, I'll keep you updated on how it goes continuing on

That's sounding really positive. sometimes it is our subconscience mind keeps that anxiety in there from this ordeal. Eventually it will all fade.... The mind is so darn powerful!!! The truth I have found is that stress and anxiety will exacerbate any tummy issues. Even to the point of reacting like clockwork and that part is the brain recognizing a pattern of thought. Just like Pavlov theory. The hypnotherapy sounds helpful. I remember when I quit smoking 31 years ago, First time I experienced IBS and actually it was withdrawl( I quit cold turkey) and I noticed after a while the anxiety triggered it even when I thought I was calm. Very tricky these brains are!! But that is a good thing trying to protect us.. Just have to tell it WE GOT THIS and it can back off now... lol The physical symptoms will disappear then. Thank God:) It's working !

Thanks mamafizz. I'm sure this isn't from anxiety though. I've had ibs for 8 or 9 years and yes it was exacerbated by stress. But I never had symptoms like this, not even a milder version. The location and type of pain is totally different and my bowel movements are also different. I guess over all the years I've learned to notice when the stress was making the ibs worse and deal with it, but this seems independent of my mental state

Right, good just trust your instincts and you will overcome this for sure!!! I think it gets confusing for the medical profession sometimes. They are not always sure how to treat some of these symptoms. Symptoms are different with each of us, just as the causes. You are well on your way though... it's been a long road I know hun! Time for some fun that's for sure!!!

Thanks mamafizz, you're reassuring as always!!!

Well I'm still waiting on my old gastro to send my files to my new gp...I had a feeling this would be a struggle.

But I've had 2 good days in a row. Still eating low carb but the past 5 days I've added another 10 mg amitryptiline (so I take 10 mg in the am and 10 in the pm). I was still having some pain for an hour or two especially on my left side from 3-5 pm ish. So the past two days I took a "preventative" buscopan at 1:30 and again at 5 and the most I've had is irritating discomfort and fullness - but not pain. Knocking on wood as I type.

But pain seems limited to the stupid abscess...anyone know any tips to help this thing clear up?!! I notice that whenever I have pain the thing is hard and swollen. As soon as it drains I feel totally fine.

Managed to jog this weekend twice and start some body weight strength training. As long as all goes well with physio on Friday, I think I will start weight training again. I've made a 12 week plan, so I'm back in trainer mode haha.

So overall a better couple of days. Definitely not perfect but I can't complain

WhSoohoo!!! so very happy to hear this! http://blog.listentoyourgut.com/periana ... treatment/ Came across this awhile back Wild oregano, details a pretty specific protocol but states it cures them.?! One of my kids used this and worked. Never came back. check it out.

. I am pretty much back to my routine, just the final stages of this muscle relaxing, each month better. That's great that you noticed improvement a few days in a row. I would love to just knock this final muscle tension out to full relax mode and be done with it?!!! Can't get into physio til end of next month IF there is a cancellation. It is doing a good job on it's own but ever so slowly. I am trying the youtube relax vids from Nikki any other suggestions let me know to help knock this out once and for all!!!??
