I have been to the local A&E this afternoon and was seen by a surgeon.... All be it not a colorectal surgeon. He had a look, and was very rough.... Attempted to use some sort of massive probe... Which I flatly refused. They took blood to check for infection.
His verdict was that he could see the fissure still, so in his opinion, this surgery was a failure.... No shit Sherlock!

Gutted.

OMB, I am so, so sorry. How awful for you, to go through all that and be told it was a failure. Mind you, the surgeon sounds like an idiot. Somebody who would be rough with your post-op bottom, can't have a very big brain.
Damn!
Hugs to you.............
:smilyhug: :hugs: :huggies:
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.
Status - Healed!

I'm so sorry OMB. I wouldn't believe that Doctor though. He probably isn't even familiar with the procedure you had and doesn't even know what he should be seeing. He does sound like an idiot. Wishing you well :hugs: Hoping something breaks through for you :smilyhug:

Sorry OMB,

I agree that the surgeon sounds like an idiot so I'd reserve your judgement until Dr. W can have a look. It may be possible that he is just seeing a suture line or irritation and that it will be on its way to closing. If the flap stayed in place, it may just take a few more weeks for the wounds to heal along a suture line.

Hello OMB,

I have been following you since before you had your surgery. Reading your day to day post is the last thing that I do before I go to sleep. I have also followed Suzy. I too am going to have to have flap surgery. I am sorry you had a bad experience at the ER. Like the others have said wait til you see your colo-rectal dr. I don't post a lot but I do read a lot. No one else in the world can understand like the people here. My thoughts are with you and I think it might be too soon for anyone to be able to call it a failure yet. Just wanted to send some encouragement. :)

Sooo painful today. I think he has torn things further.
Thankyou for all your words of encouragement.... But the truth is I still have a fissure, and now it extends down outside the anal verge, so is in fact worse. It's going to take alot of time, pampering and perserverence to get this fissure back under control. I feel completely exhausted by it all to be honest. I'm so teary I can't even bring myself to phone my mum and tell her... If I say the words out loud, it's real. My husband couldn't even sleep last night he feels so heart broken for me....these damn fissures don't just affect us sufferers, they impact all those close to us too, and that makes me feel even worse.

I feel so bad for you ownybum. Flap surgery can be rough. I don't understand the type you had. Did they remove the fissure and flap over the fresh tissue or just cover the fissure? It's hard to discribe my flaps surgery. It wasn't a y-v or house flap. The tissue they took was from directly outside the anus. They removed the scar tissue on two sides that's why I had 2 flaps. I also wasn't allowed to have a rectal exam other than dilation for quite a while. I remember while I was in the hospital there were signs hanging on the door and over my bed not to touch my butt. I can pm you a picture of my surgery but it's very graphic. Recovery is slow. Are you allowed to do sitz baths. They help when you're futher along. I was also told not to use soap or vaseline or any type of lotion around the area. They gave me a water soluble tube of lidocaine and antibiotic ointment but that was it. I wish I could give you a hug and make this all go away. Please hang in there and see what your surgeon has to say. Wishing you all the best Suzy
