That so sounds like what I have had to deal with. Have you tried squatting to poop? It has really helped me when I feel it just sitting there. If you don't think you could perch on your toilet..don't know how gross you think this is but you could try squatting in the shower if you have a walk in. I have heard of some people using a bowl for this and then emptying it into the toilet after...

The miralax helped me a lot but I also need something more stimulating, like magnesium.

I have a stool which gives me the squatting position; I was able relieve myself some more after taking miralax and my bm this morning was very soft and not much effort to expel (thank god).. I'll continue to drink miralax in order to prevent this.

Oh you are very welcome. Not sure how much help I can be as everyone is different but I'll help where I can. Maybe at least some good can come of what I've gone through ;)

It is nice to know we are not alone and I'm sure your experience will help someone else out there that comes to this forum.

Good that the burning pain has been reduced and also by the sounds of it no incontinence issues!

Botox might be worth a shot for me yet. I will see what my pain specialist has to say when I see him next month.

The whole problem of the spasm seems to develop from surgeries to the area as well as anal fissures. The scarring from healing causes the muscles to dysfunction.

I have had a whole botch up down there including hemroidectomy complicated with an anal abscess and then a fistula!!! After everything healed I was left with scarring which I am sure has caused my spasm.

"Have either of you considered acupuncture? I've read great things about it relieving pain. My OBGYN recommended it to relieve pain"

I've scheduled my first appointment for this Friday with the acupuncturist... I hope for some good results :)

Thanks Alyssa. I tried acupunture many years ago for my pelvic pain and had no success. I will sadly probably be trying some more botox to even out this imbalance :(

Msimon,

Did you have multiple acupuncture sessions? You're trying Botox, in what area? Can you tell me how can an individual have a relaxed pelvic floor but yet have a tight sphincter?

Yes I did have multiple sessions. Too bad though...

Well, the pelvic floor muscles are in a different place than the sphincters as far as how some people inject the muscles. The Doctor I used to see aimed for the pelvic floor muscles by directing the needle toward my butt (this is where both the pelvic floor and sphincter muscles would meet eachother-everything comes together around our tailbones). She would go from the outside and up and in with a long needle (all while I was awake ;) She was also aiming specifically for the puborectalis muscle (which is the lowest part of the pelvic floor and wraps itself around the anal sphincter. It is involved in anismus. I think this also affected my external sphincter either because they work together or because the botox spread to it.

You can also inject the pelvic floor muscles from inside the vaginal canal, which is what this last Doctor did for me. It is my belief that the botox may spread more to the sphincters when injected the first way as opposed to the second way. That is what my experience tells me, although right now I am feeling very confused. My butthole is the worst constant ring of fire ever! I can hardly walk, sit, etc. and can barely evacuate BM. I just don't know what to do. I am back and forth between whether it is the internal sphincter spasming or the pelvic floor/external sphincter. I turned down LIS today and of course am having such a bad day I kind of wish I went :( Sorry to complain so much. I'm done now :sadd:
