Return to Chronic Anal and Rectal Pain

I think it's something to do with the internal sphincter being very tight. From my own dilation and examinations my pain isn't as far inside as initially thought.

Dilation might help loosen up the bands of scar tissue as well in the anal canal. Although I have a bit more pain, it is at least changing something(it's making my residual chronic pain a bit more intense). Also because it's in the exact area where my pain is coming from that has intensified, maybe something will change long term.

After a few months I should know if it's helping. At the moment I can only use one of the smaller dilators, it's about 15mm diameter. Its still quite tight to put in.

Hi Pafen. Have you had trigger point injections in the pelvic floor? I had them yesterday and am so sore an flared up! I was supposed to get botox but she wanted to try marcaine injections. I was wondering if it's normal to flare up initially but then get some improvement when the injury from the injections is healed? Thanks :)

Msimon,

My experience was when the injections were placed in my trigger points and tender bands of muscle I got some relief. The trigger point injections I had consisted of lignocaine anaesthetic along with a small amount of steroid.

So the effect was pretty instant because it numbed the area for me. One time I had really good relief for about a week from it. It was very hard to get the injections in the exact right spots though.

Possible if you aren't getting immediate relief the injection doesn't consist of any anaesthetic?

Yes, the anesthetic is Marcaine. I was numb for a few hours from it but now the pain has set in. It's like those areas are really inflamed right now? My Doctor said that the area was very tight and felt like gravel (ie., tons of trigger points and she even said calcification). She had a lot of trouble getting the needle in so I was thinking that that would have caused some trauma. I sure hope this settles down but right now I am really wishing I had the botox instead :( I can't see her now for 5.5 weeks :groan:

Msimon,

How are things settling down now since the injections??

I am looking to probably try biofeedback next with a new physiotherapist.

Thanks for asking Pafen. The injection sites settled down and I think that there is more relaxation there now but my fissure is flaring horribly so unfortunately I can't tell what pain is coming from where. Doesn't help me with deciding to do LIS or not :(

Alyssa,

Still here. Just had a few other problems which kept me off the forum. I had to get a tooth surgically extracted from a failed root canal.

I am still doing the dilation. I find it works best if i do it each morning immediately after a bowel movement. This helps to prevent the strong spasms which follow my bowel movements.

How are things going for you?
