Hello & Help :)

Postby BigRed03 » 20 Mar 2015, 00:44

Hello,
I've just joined this forum for support and help :) I am a young Australian female who has had Crohn's since I was about 16, diagnosed at 22 and had surgeries for fissures...
I had a fissure fixed surgically that got infected. I was in a lot of pain and went to my GP (before I was diagnosed with Crohn's and got a regular specialist). My GP told me the redness I was experiencing was due to my bum cheeks rubbing together haha and that any discharge was just from the fissure. Anyways, it got infected and subsequently I now have a fistula :(
I was wondering what to expect when I go in to have surgery to fix this fistula. The surgeon is thinking Seton is the way to go.

Will I be in much pain and how much time should I allow off work after I take it? What is healing time?... All that fun stuff
Any information and advise would be really great
Thank you!

Hi Big Red. Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about your situation. I had an infection as well that was undiagnosed until it started to form a tract. Sorry, but I don't have a lot of advice about your situation. I've had a fissure, then LIS, then an infection at the LIS site, then a sinus formed (this is like a stage before a fistula) and then had surgery on that in which it was laid open (much like a fistulotomy). I think these sorts of cases are very individual and decisions are made by surgeons when they get in there and see what all is going on. Mine is still healing 6 weeks on but has closed to the point it is now like a fissure. CRS keeps telling me 2 more weeks. Everyone is so different and it will depend a lot on what you have to have done.

When are you having surgery?
Dec '13 Fissure from anoscope
3 X internal sphincter botox
'08-'15 Botox for pelvic floor dysfunction
Nov '14 LIS/sentinel tag removal
Feb '15 Deroofing of recurrent infection from LIS
summer '15-healed but still ongoing muscle dysfunction/pain
