Yes, I used diltiazem and baths for four months and was healed.
There are some threads that discuss my healing process back on page 1 or 2 if you want to read more about it.

I thought I had healed with diltiazem - it certainly helped with the pain, but then went on to get an abcess then a fistula and was told I had a 12cm fissure.
Had LIS, problem solved!

Yes. Many people do that but they are than not on this forum LOL !!!
"Normal" fissure usually goes away in 2 to 4 weeks , chronic ones are the problem. I managed to heal with conservative treatments but my fissure opened again after 3 weeks and I just didn't want to deal with it any more- I wanted my life back !!!
So, yeah, it is possible even for chronic fissure to heal, but it is not advisable to wait more than a year (according to my CRS) since so much scar tissue forms that than healing is very hard even after LIS.
Best of luck!

How long did you all use the creams after your pain/bleeding went away? After you stopped using the cream, did the fissure come back? Why did it come back?

I had the fissure for 8 months altogether. I got the diltiazem about 6 weeks after it started, I think, and it helped the pain after about a week. I continued using it the whole time even when I felt better, but then developed an abcess, then a fistula! But was told to still keep using the cream by the CRS.

Ok...I have another cream question after talking to my buddy JA....
How many times a day do you apply your cream and what kind are you on?
I am on .2% nifedipine, and I put it on twice - once in the am, and once in the pm. Should I sneak in another dose during the day?

Part of me is getting so discouraged reading about everyone's different situations. Is it just me? I guess I'm just having a bad day! I have nothing to use at the moment - any over the counter topicals that might help in healing?

nancy - i've tried neosporin for various amounts of time. i just put it in/around the fissure area as much as possible. i doubt it did much to help, but it was comforting to put a familiar healing cream on it at least
