Hi.

Sadly, new to this forum. I'm stunned that one actually exists. It's surprising what you find on t'Internet huh.

Mr F, I've just read your whole thread as I have just received confirmation of my appointment with a consultant next Saturday. I've had this recent fissure pain for about 5-6 weeks now and over the past couple of days felt less pain... Typical just before my appointment. Would I still be considered for surgery due to history of fissure and haemorrhoid issues? (sorry not hijacking your thread)

I'm sorry that the healing process isn't going as well as you hoped and that your tendon problem is causing you extra grief. May the next few days of good night sleeps and resting help you on your way!

Hi KV12,

Sorry you had to find these forums, but thanks for dropping by and for the good wishes.

I would still go to the appointment, to let the CRS check you over and give his/her professional opinion. As you are only 6 weeks in, they may try other options first (are you using Rectogesic/GTN, for instance?). Depending on your country and your sex the CRS may favour Botox before an LIS anyway, as you've not had the Fissure too long and it won't yet be regarded as chronic.

Good luck with your recovery and let us know how your appointment goes.

Thank you for your response.

I've had issues for 20 years or so but having finally giving in and attended a colorectal unit in 2010 I was diagnosed with a fissure. Gtn worked well back then but it hadn't this time round. I've increased my fibre intake, take stool softeners, sitz baths (coconut oil) , drink loads of water and have been using Gtn again. It's getting better as I'm not in as much pain, a few days ago it was a 9/10 it's about a 3/10. I'm currently still off work, I'm wondering what they will do for me if anything at all? I feel like I've done most of what is recommended, I hope.

I'd rather have botox in my face!

Sorry to hear you've been suffering on and off for so long. All the more reason to see an expert imo.

Sounds like you're doing all the right things, but if they aren't really working, you might need a helping hand? I also didn't opt for Botox, as the success rate isn't as high as with an LIS. I wouldn't have thought in your circumstances there's anything to be lost by going along and listening to what a specialist thinks...? You may get an internal examination, you may not, but if they are good they will try to avoid causing you too much pain (unlike my GP!).

So this morning I find something unusual in my sitz bath after my BM. Flat, about the circumference of a pea, it looked like a couple of pieces of dried skin with a black piece in the middle. Wondering if this was an absorbable suture?

It could have been MR F maybe it's the last bit of the stitches with some scar/skin attached to it.
I have never had that myself but I would have a full bath and never really looked if anything came out lol.
Hope your feeling better today

Thanks mpb, yeah feeling quite a bit better today thanks, after a rough day yesterday. You'd think by now I'd be used to the psychological ups and downs of an AF wouldn't you!? LOL.

Anyway, managed a half hour stroll with the dog this afternoon, with little or no pulling or burning, so quite an improvement on the last couple of days. Really feel I just need a couple of good back to back days to help things progress...

Hope you're continuing to enjoy life without the hindrance of an AF!

Take care

KV12, If you've been dealing with 9/10 pain, is seriously consider LIS. If you've tried the creams and they haven't worked, I'd take the jump ASAP. Some people have horrible issues with surgery, but most don't. I'm a month out and besides the incision site being irritated after a BM, life is 150% better. Definitely try to heal it first, but I wouldn't wait too long. For me, it got to the point where nothing else would work.
Good luck

I'm doing great thanx still have days when multiple BMs cause spasms but that's not too often thankfully
It really does make a difference when you get a run of good days makes you realise you can be normal again.
I'm sure you will get that soon though and it's really good that you managed a walk with pain that's a good improvement.

Really glad to hear that mpb, so pleased for you, as I know how much you suffered!

Unfortunately that run of good days isn't here yet for me! I took a risk yesterday whilst feeling good and ate the sausage and egg sandwich I'd been craving and paid for it last night! Really bad spell of wind and eventually it started to sting and felt like I was passing bullets...Couldn't sleep from about 5ish as couldn't find a comfortable position to stop the burning...

Today, I've got the burning/stinging back and occasional spasms when I move about despite having a coconut oil sitz, applying recto and regular heat pads and ice. I'm pretty sure something (AF or incision) has been re-opened.

Really pissed off as my team are playing in the play-offs tomorrow night and I was trying to make it to the match, having missed the last 3 home games. Unless I improve quickly, that's going to be tough, as can't bear the thought of a car journey feeling like I do atm.. Trust me to think I could behave like a normal human being for once!
