Hi Jen
Going back to your original question about whether or not creams etc have worked - they did for a while, but the haemmorhoids, fissure & polyps would always eventually return. Sometimes they all disappeared for a couple of days, sometimes a couple of months. This went on for 2 years, so I had an LIS & haemmorhoidectomy & a few skin tags & polyps removed, all in one operation which took about 45 minutes. That was nearly 3 months ago. No regrets. No pain & no problems since the second week post-operation.
Hope things are improving for you.

Hi Brett , Can i ask ? Polyps was this a polyp due to the fissure?
I am asking as i have a polyp due to inflammation of my fissure a fibrous polyp....my doctor said i would not need to have this removed, i do not get any symptoms from the polyp being there......TOUCHWOOD !
Jen i use the anoheal cream this worked for my first fissure, still battling away with fissure no2 !!

Tabby,
I can sympathize with you , it would be nice to know exactly why one gets a second fissure and how you might prevent it without making dramatic changes in your lifestyle.
For some unknown reason some of us have a chronic problem with this.
Anyone else want to chime - in on this ?

Don't know about the second fissure and I hope to never know about it, knock on wood. I preferred the nifedipine. the nitro stung and irritated the area and did not seem to work as well. Like Fiss, I had to apply huge dollups several times a day to get any effect aside froma headache from the nitro. I never got a headache from the nifedipine.

Hi Sorerumpie,
I am not sure but personally i think that beacuse the area has been damaged before that makes it all a little more suspectable to another fissure to arise ? or maybe - i am sure i have read somewhere that a fissure treated with anoheal has a chance of returning Image

Hey Tabby, Yea, that may be the case , and my gastro doc implied the same thing . He said that once you heal a fissure - you're pretty much committed to keeping a program with fiber and soft stools the rest of your life...............
That's fine with me if it keeps from reoccuring.
How is your rear end doing lately ? Feeling better ?

for some unknown reason my fissure didn't heal after 2 LIS surgeries. i wish someone could explain that to me! i've got it under control now, but it made my life a living hell for such a long time. i know i'll stick with anything that helps me stay pain-free for the rest of my life.

Dear Juney Image , I can only imagine how frustrating it is for you and mind boggling too Image !!!
I really wish you would go and see other CRS who might have an idea and do some further tests - like measuring your sphincter tone by reliable instruments and maybe doing biopsy to see if there are inflammatory processes going on in your anal mucosa that prevent healing.
I hope that you are at least pain free now that you use MOM regularly Image
All the best Image
John and Jen - I used both creams and I really can't say which worked better since none obviously helped me heal completely and for long time. My fissure would get better and than open again with first semi - normal poop. My sphincter was in constant spasm and only help was LIS and it did do a trick. I am so happy that I did it - once your sphincter is relaxed, fissure heals and new one are less likely to appear - that is also reason I decided to have surgery - I didn't want to be slave to my butt for life.
I hope though that you two would heal with creams and fiber and the rest that goes with fissure pampering, and I think that you can since you both are already feeling much better Image and can normally function ! Most people that had surgery were in really BAD pain - debilitating - one that make you scream at the toilet and than spend the rest of the day in horrible pain from spasms that prevent even walking , not to mention any other activity. Other candidates for LIS are people who develop complications like abscess or fistula.
I wish you both fast and complete healing Image !!!! It is possible !!!

thanks fiss. i'm not planning to go back to any drs anytime soon. i'm gonna leave well enough alone now and deal with it how i know best. nothing they ever did helped me! things are much better now anyway, and i don't even think of it much. when i do think of it it's only to worry that i'll never be able to stop using MOM. but as long as i use it i'm good to go!! :)
