Great to hear that you've had your appointment and have a treatment plan in place. I hope that all of your issues are resolved soon.

Thanks, chachacha. It may take some time, but I'm determined to see the plan through and am hoping that it will work. In fact, I think hope is one of the important factors here.

Healing is a slow process. I'm feeling somewhat better than I have for quite a long time, but am still bothered by discomfort that doesn't yet show much sign of levelling off. Giving up the laxatives was not so easy - I found I got constipated quite quickly without them, and have had to go back to taking small doses of miralax. I don't know exactly what the source of the problem is - probably just that the pelvic area is sensitive after years of inflammation. I'm looking forward to my next appointment at the pelvic floor clinic and getting more specific advice about exercises I can do.

I had my third appointment at the St Thomas's pelvic floor clinic. The plan, as outlined to me by my physiotherapist, is to follow the qufora irrigation system - I'm being started on the 'mini' version of the system, which looks fairly easy to use, though I haven't begun to experiment with it yet, am aiming to do so tomorrow.

Again, I was asked a lot of questions about my diet and bowel habits, and was also given instructions about breathing exercises, together with some links to YouTube videos.

Thanks. The system is reasonably easy to use, but is clearly going to require a bit of practice. The chief difficulty I had was in squeezing all the water out of the bulb in one go. However, I did manage to inject about three quarters of the water into my colon. Then it flowed out again, together with some small particles of stool, though i also found that inserting the nozzle caused a BM - not sure if that's meant to happen. Anyway, practice makes perfect, and I guess I'll be doing this on a more or less daily basis from now on. It's rather similar to administering an enema.

The only real objection I have to the system so far is that inserting the cone into the rectum is a fairly sensitive process, as things are quite inflamed in that region. But it's not too bad, and I'll persevere.

I hope the system helps improve your pain levels. Perhaps you could apply a water soluble lubricant to the cone to make it easier and less painful to use.
8/16-12/16: Fissure due to antibiotics
5/17: Botox to sphincter, fissure healed
9/19: Trigger point injections and pudendal nerve block
11/19: Botox to pelvic floor
8/20: Botox to pelvic floor in new location.
On and off in pelvic physical therapy

The cones have a lubricated tip - the lubricant is activated when you dip the cone in water. It's not too painful at first, but I find that I have quite a lot of discomfort for a fairly long time after inserting - more than several hours. But maybe this will improve with time.
