congrats badass!!!!
yipppeeeee.......
i am happy that you made it past the worst and now are on your way to healing. take it easy, don't get off the anal fissure diet yet, and take it one day at a time!
as others who have had their LIS/fissurectomy, their first BM was never as bad as they thought it would be.
namaste!

Welcome home! I am so glad you pulled through and are actually feeling better than before. I prayed for you on and off throughout the day and even told my CRS about you because I felt so bad about you having to have LIS and a hemorrhoidectomy. Don't feel discouraged if you have some ups and downs. That is to be expected. I say treat the pain. I know you need to be judicious about not causing constipation though. I was constipated after surgery too and what really got things moving was to drink some prune juice. Just a little bit though as it enhances peristalsis.

Take care!

BA,
Your recovery makes me think of my now 83 year old mother who had a fissurectomy 40+ years ago with no advice on what to do after the surgery from her doc--no stool softeners, nothing. I guess she just winged it. By the way she takes no prescription meds at her age and is an inspiration to me.

Badass -
I am so glad everything is going well! My prayers have been with you all day. You will have to keep us updated and let us know how that first BM goes.
Cheryl - Did your mother ever have any other problems with her fissure after the fissurectomy 40 years ago?

Jen,
Isn't that something that my mom had that surgery so long ago?? She never had any more probs with the fissure after having it removed. And she got it after having a bad case of the flu and diarrhea. She did indicate that the first time she had a BM after the surgery was very tough. But, like I indicated, after surgery she was given very little direction/few instructions/no pain meds from our doc at the time who was a family practice doc, but also a general surgeon (not a CRS specifically). She might have had an abcess or fistula because she said prior to surgery she could not sit or stand, and told the doc who operated on her if wasn't going to take "it" out, she was going to find someone who would! I think she stayed overnight in the hospital after the surgery as my dad and I went to visit her. But I was young then and more interested in other things at the time like any kid would be. My mother does have hemmroid probs occasionally and so did my dad so I guess I inherited these butt probs!! My dad used to eat Metamucil wafers or take the probs. He died of liver cancer in '95.

Hey BA,
So glad to hear things are improving for you. Praying for your continued healing. I know less pain will come your way soon! It was hard for me to pee also, after the hemmie removal. Warm baths and showers were comforting.
Miralax and fiber really helped me keep things soft.
Take care,
Jo

Hello everyone. Difficult day today. Been in bed most of today. Still no BM. It also seems that today the pain is a bit worse than yesterday. The nurse who called me to follow up told me if no BM by lunch tomorrrow I need to call the CRS. My last BM was tuesday am so I'm a little worried. Anyone have a similar experience? Thinking of all and thank you for the kind words of encouragement. Praying for pain free days for everyone. D.

YES! I certainly did have a similar experience. I was constipated and finally had to call *my* CRS who instructed me to use a laxative AND a fleets enema. I thought, are you CRAZY?
I think it was three days before I was finally able to push, push, push my first stool out. Yep, I STRAINED even though I had just had surgery. NO, I am NOT telling you to do that!
I went through hell during my recovery and even though then I was saying I'd wished I hadn't done it, of course, I do now. Relax, you aren't in the woods yet!

BA,
I think I have gone for a few days w/o a BM in my previous days of vacillating between the two extremes years ago. Could you try some Miralax? I also know of a guy who was on a diet and didn't have a BM for several days (I don't remember how many days it was). Good to be in touch with the doc, however. We'll send up extra prayers for peace of mind and less pain.

I was instructed to take Milk of Magnesia and some mineral oil if I hadn't had a BM after two days. Sometimes the pain can get worse after all the GA is out of your body and it can feel like a ton of bricks hitting you. I know some docs don't want you taking ibuprofen after surgery because of bleeding risks but if yours doesn't object I would alternate the narcs with the ibuprofen.

Also, I had to resort to taking prune juice after my hemorrhoidectomy. That definitely got things moving-a bit too fast but it really will help to unclog you.

Hang in there.
