Oh : (((, so sorry BA - it was horrible Image !!! But, I think that now that that hard poop is out you are over the last hurdle and that your true healing can start now ! Take as much rest as you can and don't stop eating since you don't want to slow down your guts again - just eat light - soups, jello, some steamed veggies and canned fruit or banana and puddings etc. Drink some black tea or chamomile or mint to sooth your digestive tract Image . It must get better - you are doing great considering all of the procedures you had and that you had a hard poop Image Image today - just hang in dear BA, do whatever makes you comfortable. Keep us posted !!!
Healing vibes sent your way Image

BA,
Isn't that the way things go?? We worry about not going and then WHAM things won't stop! I think you are through the worst. My mom did recall that after her first BM, everything got better from there. If you are off of pain meds now, that should be helpful to the digestive tract which seems to be very sensitive!!Take care and rest.
My older son had Lasik eye correction surgery today, and I am anxious to hear what he thought about it. My mother said he is going to take a rest, so I won't know for awhile how it went.

BA,
I know it seems rough now but hang in there. The first week can indeed be hell and you may despair some, but I was right where you were and believe me, it was more than worth it.
You sound like your experience was almost identical to mine, and I not only survived the recovery but my ass is back to normal, yours will be too, I have little doubt. Just keep telling yourself you are doing what you have to do. The first week will be over before you know it.
Hang tough!

I know how hard it is after the adrenaline calms down and the drugs start to wear off you can wonder what you got yourself into. Healing from anorectal sugery is not linear and you will have a lot of ups and downs. My CRS told me that with a hemorroidectomy the sun doesn't start to come out until about 2 weeks, but come out it will.

I think now that you got the first series of bms out of the way your body is going to react better. If you need medicine take it and then take something so you won't et constipated like a few spoonfuls of MOM. I feel for you.

78 Hours post surgery. Im down but not out and hanging in there. Today was by far the worst of them all. I finally succumbed and took a pain pill about an hour ago and do feel much better. Good news is there is nothing in me to get constipated as I am definitely "empty". Im eating ice chips as they seem to not run right out the back door.
Im going to try and eat something a little later as I want to get my system back on some type of routine. This process is definitely not a straight forward healing and is physically and emotionally draining. It is, in a word, a nightmare!
Thank you everyone for "staying with me" and offering me your support it has been a beacon of light in this otherwise dark journey.
So as day turns to night and night into day I remain confident that this is all part of Gods plan for me and that the lessons I learn from this will serve to help me help others sometime in the future. Congrats to the new VIP's you deserve it!
Until later I remain BA. (for now)

Do take something for the pain if you need it. Don't suffer needlessly. And I agree, you need to continue eating at least some food! :) Glad you feel better at the moment. Steel yourself for the few days ahead and as Lecia mentioned, be prepared for a few ups and downs!

Yes, when things get very dark and you start to feel despair it usually means your pain is worsening and treating the pain will help you stay physically and emotionally strong. If you need something to sleep you might ask for a sleepaid you can use too.

If you feel hunger then by all means eat-that could be making you feel worse because your blood sugar is so low. Do you have some family that can look after you?

God wants you well.

BA,
I was thinking about you during my walk I just completed. I haven't gone through the surgical procedures you have, so I cannot really relate, however, I am concerned at the moment that the grated cheese I ate on my salad for lunch at a restaurant might cause me some grief even though I have had 2 BM's today and was fine, so we all have our issues it seems with food and how it will turn out (literally) for us.
During my golf league this AM one of the ladies said that she cannot eat breakfast b/4 golfing as there is no toilet on the golf course, and she has diverticulitis and has to hurry to the bathroom at times. So, I think there are many people with butt and/or digestive issues, but we don't know about their issues because subjects like these are not usually discussed openly as I indicated previously. She also said that both of her sons have diverticulitis, and she feels there is an inherited aspect of the condition. On the positive side these last few days I have been feeling much better, and I feel that we need to keep telling ourselves that no matter how dark everything seems at times, there is always light at the end of the tunnel no matter how dim the light may appear at times. I also thought during the walk that Tim Russert would no doubt we happy to be alive and worry about if some cheese eaten for lunch was going to give him a prob. Everything in perspective.
To improved health,
Cheryl

I think that only Tim Russert can answer to that question - maybe he is enjoying his new celestial existence and is happy to be "out of here" LOL !!!
Death is not always a bad thing - it can be merciful too, even if there is nothing beyond.
Tim had great life, wonderful career and family, just came from great vacation and had fast "exit" - what more can one ask for ?! LOL

Thanks you guys. Im cooking some food now as I know how important eating is. I was able to keep some water down and hope the worst of the runs is over. I do have family that can help and they have all offered, but , as you all know, sometimes there is really nothing they can do.
I realize how lucky I am despite the current circumstances I am dealing with. One of the things that keeps me going is the knowledge and belief that this too shall pass. I can't wait to get back on the golf course as I have been totally sidelined by my fissure and now surgery. I have been praying for everyone because I know I am not alone. These types of problems do not discriminate young, old, men, women it affects everyone. Keeping tha faith...time for my first meal of the day...Im actually looking forward to some food. D.
