fiber and water.

Postby buttgirl » 29 Apr 2008, 12:18

I don't know why I didn't think of this before, but I ahve started carrying around a quart of fiber water with me everyday. my water has 9+ grams of soluable fiber in it, 1/3 of RDA. I basically just put two heaping spoons of benefiber in a nalgene bottle and run out the door. I have been trying this for a week and it really has helped keep my poo consistently soft. No more of this soft towards the end and harder at the beginning thing. Why didn't I think of this before.

I haven't noticed any extra bulk. benefiber is malt dextrin, so it may be the same ingredients as fiber sure. I have also been using inulin, whichis a prebiotic as well as a fiber. it has 6 grams per tablespoon, but it is harder to dissolve in water.

AHA..The fibresure souble fibre food i was looking into contains 5g of fibre in 1 heaped teaspoon gives 20% of daily fibre needs.
Contains Inulin from chicory (100%) and is gluten free.
They do other fibresure with psyllium Image but i think i would like to try the inulin one :D

Thanks for the info! What a great idea. I carry my 1.5 liter water bottle with me all day - I bet it would benifit me by putting in some fiber - I usually take 2 chewable fiber pills late in the day, but screw that. With your way, I can kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Thanks BG!

Great idea!
Now I need to find a good bottle, where do you get a nalgene bottle? Is it plastic without the bad stuff?

I found the bottle in a hiking/biking store. Nalgene is a really hard plastic that will last you for years. I have had one bottle for about 10 years. Nalgene will leach trace amounts of plastic estrogens-mimics into liquids that are left in it for a long time, especially if the liquids are alcoholic. You can leach the majority of the estrogens out yourself by filling the bottle with water/alcohol and leaving it sit for about a week. After that, the water you put in it should not be notably contaminated. But really, the key is trace amounts and if you are drinking the water in a short time period, very very very very little will leach out.
