I think the twitching/spasms is a nerve thing from the surgery, hopefully just needing time to settle down Image
Have faith COP, you have pretty high up stats on your forever healing and there is no reason why you should not be in the 98% ! don’t think any different !
Be positive and give your healing the best chance Image
I hope today is a little better for you Image

I can't really tell if the pain is directly from the incision or the fissure. I'm guessing it's from both.
I'm still in the dark about whether I had a real bladder infection. They haven't called back with my results yet!
The area does feel tight, but I suppose that could be the stitches? I'm not sure. The pain is getting better, though.
Thanks for all your kind words!

I know it is difficult to be patient especially when you have other pain issues. You want to know that this isn't going to last forever and add to the complexities that you already face and interfere with your life more than it has. I think what worries people is that is gets worse before it gets better. Surgery initially can create more pain, trauma but once it heals and your fissure heals there is no reason to believe you can scratch this off your list. Try your best not to panic, okay? Image

When I had neck surgery in october I was catheterized and had the same problem that you had - but they found no infection, so dont be surprised if they call you back and say it was ok! But I got horrific bladder spasms and as a result, it felt like my fissure was spasming again, so maybe that's a possibility for you too? Just a thought. I think a spasm in that general area can feel like its everywhere "down there!"
The stitches make it feel tight until they come out, but once they are gone you should feel a whole lot better.
We all heal at different rates - I know it sucks to be one of the slow healers, but it will get better in its own time. The worst thing you can do for healing is to worry - believe that it will get better and try to think positive!
Best of luck!

Well, I had my two week visit with my surgeon today. He said that my muscle tone had improved, although I had torn my suture a little bit. But he said that it wasn't bad enough to worry about.
However, he told me that it wasn't common for the spasms to continue after the LIS, and kinda just said that he had done all he could for me. Image Not entirely reassuring.
He also didn't know whether I could use Milk of Magnesia long-term or not. Anyone here know? I've heard Miralax is safe for long-term use, because it's not actually a laxative...
Other than that, he advised me to find a fix for my frequent constipation (that I've had since a baby, according to my mom), or else I'd have serious problems in the future. He said I was very lucky not to have hemorrhoidal disease.

No, that is not reassuring. However, if your sphincter pressure is better, and you are even somewhat less tight down there, then you still stand a very good chance of the fissure healing and then getting relief from the spasm. It will just take longer.
As for long term use of MOM, I could only find references that you could become bowel dependent on it, though it is not a stimulant laxative. Try to use as small a dose as possible but which is still effective. And remember, it is magnesium, so I personally would avoid extra magnesium from other sources as long as your on the MOM, i.e. supplements.
Try googling "long term use of milk of magnesia" and you will find many hits. Keep getting your RDA of fiber and keep up with the warm soaking hot baths as often as possible and above all, keep a positive mental attitude!

Your doctor doesn't sound very helpful at this stage. Controlling constipation is imperative. You could try supplementing with flax seed oil which will help coat the stool, probiotics, aloe vera. All of these have helped me with stool softening.
I know they do not recommend the use of MOM long term but I know personally I take half a dose a day and have for several years. I would try everything else before using the MOM if you can.

Get on the Miralax esp while healing !
I was assured miralax is safe to be taken long term/for life if needs be !
Your CRS had no suggestions on how you should manage constipation ??
I hope things start to improve for you now, I know I found after the 2 week mark things started slowly but surely improving !

Well, it seems MOM isn't okay for long term use, which doesn't surprise me.
I was told by my doctor that Miralax is okay for long term use, but after doing a search on Google I'm seeing tons of stuff that says it's not! It's so crazy how much conflicting info is out there on medication and health issues.
Still, I'm going to stop taking the MOM (my last dose was the day before yesterday) and start taking Miralax, in addition to my Citrucel. I'll probably be seeing my gastroenterologist soon to talk more about my constipation problems. It sucks too, because I'm on 2 types of medication that only add to my constipation problems, but I can't stop taking them.
I've never tried flax seed oil. Can you get it at a local drugstore like Walgreens? A specialist I see actually suggested I try probiotics, and I bought some, but haven't used them yet. I'm a bit nervous to try them. Image I've heard some horror stories about them and products like Activia. I don't want to take Miralax, Citrucel, and probiotics all at the same time, do I?
I have to start my internship this Friday, so hopefully I start healing faster. I just wish these darn spasms would stop. They make me assume the surgery wasn't a success.
Thanks for all the tips! <3

How long have you been on those two constipation-inducing meds? Many people find that over time their bodies adjust and various side effects, including constipation, tend to diminish (depending on the med, of course and the dosage).
I'm not surprised about the MOM, I could find no sources last night that indicated it was OK for long term use.
What horror stories have you heard about Activia? Inquiring minds want to know!
