I am still struggling with the recovery phase. More pain today after 2 BMs - though BMs were soft. I had walked 2 miles yesterday and maybe that added to pain ? A little more blood today just streaks but of course that's a day of pain and awareness of the behind. I have been good with diet yesterday maybe I ate too little? Maybe the walk? Or maybe just meant to be a relatively not so good Sunday in my fate?!! A few tears not because the pain is too bad But because more steps back than steps forward of late. Atleast for the past 3 days. I am still able to spend quality time with everyone and work well but the anxiety has returned.
I am going to calm myself down with some yoga and meditation. Ending on the positive note for today.

Oh no Hun so sorry your having a bad day today,
I find the softer the BM the worse the pain and if I have two in one day my pain is straight up to a 4 if not a 5 and lasts longer. Do you think the softer BMs may be a sign you need to add a bit more to you diet as I'm sure your not eating very much especially of the carb or protein variety.
Everyone is different but if you are an active person I wouldn't think a walk would cause an increase in pain but if you don't walk much it Gould increase the BMs.
I feel your anxiety I was there after my BBQ really wanted to cry as I felt my life would always be dominated by this...but it won't we will get better and even if an awareness always has to be there maybe it's for a reason...to remind us to be calm take time and breathe.
Enjoy your yoga and meditation and I'm sure tomorrow will be better
Hugs for the new week

I am so sorry to hear that you are struggling with a slow recovery. I am so afraid to be cut and not to be healed. You had 2 LIS op. Did they cut the fissure out during the LIS or just cut the sphincter? Do you remember? How fast was your LIS recovery? How long had you been out of work?

To umke: I don't remember too much about my LIS except recovery was quite fast and I went back to school/ work in 1 week both times

Thanks MPB for the encouragement. I am still trying to figure out my best diet - it's daily experimentation . Stilk at the quest for perfection !

Take care - more in a bit.

Sorry for so many questions. But only here we can find the information from those who unfortunately had this experience. What would you choose if you were in my position? LIS or scar tissue removal with botox? Both methods has it's risks. With LIS I am afraid of incontinence and the fact that the sphincter will be "damaged" for the whole life. With scar removal and botox I'm afraid that it will not help to heal and only adds more wounds. And also there is no garantee about incontinence too.
Did your 2 LIS surgeries have any impact on your life?
You told me that you have had fissures on an off for years. Why after 2 LIS? Is it because of giving birth? Why didn't you do LIS this time? Three will be unsafe?

Hi Umka,
I haven't had LIS due to have it later this year but I have had Botox with the scar removal and I can honestly say it has made a difference to the pain and totally stopped the spasms.
I think if you don't have lots of BMs in a day and your fissure isn't long and deep then Botox would probably heal you.
I didn't want Botox just wanted LIS but I have a deep long fissure and was advised by two CRS to have Botox to begin the healing. My CRS said the most Incontinece he has seen from LIS has been marks on pants...I would deal with that everyday over the pain of spasms.
In the end it's your decision but ask your doctors and do what's best for you you can have LIS 3 months after Botox so I guess it's worth a try.
I hope this works out for you

Yes I was told a third LIS is not advisable. Both my LIS went well with speedy recovery and I had decades of a good life. I am not sure how many recur after LIS but I was one of them. Wish I knew why. Maybe multifactorial .
Really don't know what I would do in your position but maybe you could ask others.
LIS former worked very quickly compared to Botox but I was also younger then - over a decade younger.
Hope you feel better

What was it like? I mean how long did you have to stay out of work, unable to sit, how much painful? I don't exactly understand what is scar removal. I mean do they cut the fissure too or just the scar? Or maybe it's the same. How long have you had your fissure before botox and scar removal?

Actually, there are several ways how to treat the fissure surgically. One CRS do LIS and tell that LIS is the best because it shows the best results and you are healing much faster and less painful. They say they do only cut of the muscle and do not touch the fissure or its scars. They say they did cut the fissure in the past but were not satisfied with the results.

Other say thay LIS is not good, because you damage your sphincter and it is bad for you. They prefer to cut out the fissure. And they do not touch the sphincter, because it is not necessary in most cases.

As for me, I don't know what is better for me. Different CRS say different, because they want me to be their patient and to pay them. I would prefre LIS to be healed quickly. But my fissure is not painful at all. It's only bleeding everytime I have a BM. So if it is not painful, maybe my sphincter is not in spasm, so maybe LIS is not for me. Because if there is no spasm, there is no need to cut the sphincter to relax it. It is relaxed.

Thank you both for your replies

It wasn't as bad as I expected to be honest...the first couple of days I was very sore but that's was much better than having spasms.
I would say take 2 weeks off work but my fissure was quite long so they scar tissue removed was quite a bit. I could sit down quite happily after the first couple of days but walking was hard.
If you aren't getting spasms then probably try the Botox and scar tissue removal first.
My current CRS says it helps healing as it tidies up the edges and makes a cleaner join possible he always does it if the fissure is more than 4 months old mine was 10 months.
I think if you aren't having pain at all then maybe LIS wouldn't be needed as it's the sphincter spasming that causes the pain. Again maybe ask your CRS to measure your resting anal pressure mine was 5/5 so obviously very tight if its3 or lower they shouldn't do LIS
Your welcome we all need help now and then

Today was a really rough day. I had to travel and on the flight things were certainly not ideal. I had a BM but without the comfort of time or space or the usual routine. The result was blood and pain. I must say I had atleast taken a lot of precautions with eating and I have not slipped up. The pain was a 5 almost a 6 and I had to push put a little too as my belly was so bloated and crampy as I had hoped against hope I wouldn't have to go on the flight. Plus people outside waiting.
I am not miserably in pain it's more of a burn now 2 hours after the BM but I am worried the Botox is wearing off and I will be unable to recover. After that BM after weeks of adhering to a good diet , I just decided to have potato fries - what with a good diet leading to bad fissure stuff why bother? I am trying to be strong and optimistic and tell myself it will heal - it's hard when it's been 5 straight days going backwards especially when things seemed to be going so well.
MPB don't let my steps back discourage you. It's so heterogenous. I remember Ouchy stating after day 17 she had no pain. I wish I could get there at some point. I have never reported a bleeding scale but today was more blood than I have seen in weeks. I must have had a re- tear. Do I start back from square 2 tomorrow? Let's see how the days go . Meditating to give me patience, courage and perseverance. Some days just seem wrong.
