Thanks, mpb !

I've had a few sensations like I might need to go, but not there yet. The thing making me a bit apprehensive is the fact it hurts/stings when I even apply gentle pressure to pass wind, so dread to think what it'll feel like for a BM :affraid: ! I think I'll wait until it's literally ready to fall out lol!

I'm keeping my portions small too and plenty of fibre to hopefully help the situation somewhat...

I think a BM is a lot different to wind I know before my flare it felt like I had to strain a lot more to pass wind than to pass a BM....think it's the whole automatic relaxation of the internal sphincter when we need a BM.
Yes I agree wait until the last minute that will make it easier, well it does for me at least lol
Good luck and I'm sure it will go much better than you imagine

Thanks, mpb, and it seems you were right!

Woke with the sensation I needed the loo, and sure enough, with very little straining had my first BM this morning, a Bristol 4 or 5, with very little pain. Amazing! :D There was a little bit of blood mixed in when I cleaned myself, but nothing in the bowl. Felt a little burn immediately after, so had a sitz and within 10 mins that had gone too!

Sounds like plain sailing, but if I've learnt anything from the AF, it's never get carried away! I had to remove quite a bit of gauze that they'd taped to my buttocks last night, in readiness for the BM, and decided I'd try to get the tape off this morning, with the help of a shower (and my Mum!). The one thing I'd not factored in was my hairy arse! OMG! :affraid:

Much manouvering of my cheeks and pulling and snipping later and the tape is off, but that old familiar burn is back...

Hoping a minor setback and nothing more...

That's great Mr F
I'm so glad your first BM was easy and pretty much pain free.
Ouch the tape sounds quite traumatic though...guess there are some plus points to being female lol
The burning could be from some residue left from the BM or some swelling further up. Or like you say manoevering the tape could have aggravated it a bit.
I'm sure you will get better every day

So happy to hear that your first BM went so well. And when others say (like me), that the first movement just slid out painlessly like butter, I'm sure that there were some sensations of a bit of burning for a minute or two, or a little pinch, but those things (to me) were not at all worth mentioning, because they were just so incredibly inconsequential and minor! I'm sure that you are really heading towards a very successful recovery, but I understand your reluctance to start cheering prematurely.

And on the hairy arse front? My son (when he was about 18), had a very large boil that needed to be lanced by the doctor and then bandaged with antibiotic ointment twice a day, and couldn't do that himself. Guess who was the lucky lady who had to deal with that? I can tell you that trying to get the bandages and tape off a hairy arse was no picnic, lol.

HaHa chachacha, you mum's do get some tough jobs - but we do appreciate it lol! And yes, I am reluctant to celebrate prematurely, as I know from bitter experience how quickly an AF can pull the rug from under you...but on reflection this afternoon, I couldn't really have asked for a better first 48 hours.

I think you're probably right mpb, think it's probably a combination of the tape removal and some swelling, as my left cheek is certainly sensitive and won't let me sit without a doughnut cushion ATM. The burning has subsided though this afternoon thankfully.

Hope you're both enjoying your Easter break...

So the last 24 hours have been a bit of a rollercoaster.

Finding a comfortable position to sit/lie these first couple of days has been tough, and the amount of time I resorted to lying on my side started to take its toll on my creaking body! Last night, while turning over in bed I either pulled my adductor tendon again or got cramp in it, time will tell...either way, it's definitely not helping when I need to go for a BM or sitz. :x

Woke up this morning and within the hour had my 2nd BM, and it's almost completely painless, with no burning afterwards. I'm on cloud 9 again ! As the day progresses I decide I need to try and sit properly in chairs and seats, to try and protect my adductor and my back, which is also very tight, and am delighted to be able to sit down to eat my tea tonight!

Felling great at this point, the leg even seems to be easing a bit now (perhaps it was cramp?), but an hour or so later I get the urge to go again, and this time it's a much more explosive BM. It stings quite a bit as it comes out, and though I've had a sitz the burning is on and off and still here a few hours later. Really hoping Ive not done any damage...

Anyway, going to turn in now. Hoping to get a better night's kip tonight, and hopefully a steadier day 4....

Hey mr fissure, sounds like you're doing great! I wouldn't worry too much about having hurt things with that last bm...I had diarrhea for the first few days after my surgery and although it was painful and seemed to increase the pain in general, it passes. I have found an ice pack to be sooo helpful with the soreness! Alternating the ice and the sitz bath or heat seems to get rid of the pain quickly!!

Hey GilmoreGirl !

Thanks for your message and words of support. Very kind of you to pop by when it sounds like you're having such a tough time of it ATM. I'd take it as a positive that you've at least been able to go, no matter how small. Hopefully the next time won't be too far off and it'll be a bit more substantial....

Thanks for the tip re:hot & cold. As it happens I laid in this morning to 10:30, and within the hour have had another BM. Again, it stung on passing, and I've still got a bit of a burn now, but I'm sat on an ice pack after a sitz and it seems to have eased a bit now.

My adductor feels a bit better today too, so perhaps it was just cramp. I know it'll help if I can get that part of me healed up too. THE CRS did say my whole pelvic region was a 'bit of a mess' so think I'll be seeking out a pelvic floor specialist when all this is sorted. Prevention being better than cure and all that...

Anyway, really hope you're having a better day GG, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you...

Rather than lie around (feeling sorry for myself!) decided to switch on the PC and do a little work this afternoon (I work for myself). Before I knew it, nearly 3 hours had gone by! I stood throughout, as sitting was causing the stinging to worsen, and it seems to have just about gone now, more the occasional twinge. The sore throat's also gone, which I've had pretty much since the op (due to the insertion of the airway tube). Still keeping pain meds down to a minimum, just using 2 x Para every 4 hrs or so.
