Hi RF,
Thanks, I really hope this can end this hell mess... 2 years is too long to suffer. I'm just scared now of having the surgery! But this is my best chance of having a normal bottom.

Definitely is the best chance to heal. For what it's worth I haven't had any incontinence and I have IBS.

Rachael 1984 wrote:The CRS examined me and he was shocked to see that my anus is almost normal? His exact words were.. Well I didn't expect to see an almost normal looking anus. Then he continued to insert a telescope and I was almost so tense I nearly came off the couch. He cannot see any Fissures, just bad irritation. Now I explained I couldn't see how this could be, as I am still getting Fissure symptoms and pain in varying degrees. He then looked puzzled and said there was no way there are any tears back there and that I might be forming new fissures and then healing. Then I asked does that mean I have high resting pressure!? His answer was I don't think so Because I got the telescope in there easily!

Ugh, what an answer! I thought they needed to do a test to determine resting pressure! I then went on to say that I am not entirely happy with this, so he has referred me to another surgeon for a second opinion, which was his idea! Weird to say the least. This just doesn't explain why I am still sore and in pain.

I feel weird and confused after this..... God knows but I really can't believe it.....

Can anybody shed some light on this, and has anyone else had a similar experience where they are still in pain but have been told it all looks okay??

Rachael,

As you know, I have been dealing with the same issues as you have been; I too have been told by doctors that I have a normal sphincter and then others have said it is tight... I'm totally confused! So even though the telescope was inserted easily, it turned out that you still had high resting pressure, huh? Did the doctors have any explanation to why that could be? Is it more tight when the fissures are active?

After reading your story, it seems that your doctor was able to see the retears right? My major fissure was detected but ever since none (what I believe to be little cuts around the anus) have been (visibly) detected upon examination :(
2/14 Fissure developed
3/14 Diagnosed w/ fissure given Nifedipine
4/14 Referred to Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy=Pelvic Floor Dysfunction
5/14 Fissure declared "healed"/chronic anal pain persists
9/5/14 Botox to pelvic floor
9/22 biofeedback

Hi A,
Yes, it's so frustrating when you don't have a definitive answer! I basically went round in circles with the first CRS. He just kept fobbing me off, and telling me everything looked normal. I just knew it wasn't which is why I insisted on a second opinion.... The new CRS said the only way to tell if the pressure is high is to have the test. It's a small probe inserted into the anus and you squeeze on command. My understanding is that the sphincter becomes tighter over time, as after many re-tears it work overtime and becomes tighter and tighter. My CRS now thinks I'm re-tearing on a regular basis(which I know I am) and also forming small fissures too.... Although he can't see them he's willing to do the LIS as my pressure is so high. He's confident it will work and it will break the cycle of hell. I literally said to him that I can't live like this anymore.

I'm hoping I can lead a normal life again... I'm pretty scared of the surgery, but at the same time I can't live in pain. I've always got some form of pain or irritation daily, which just isn't right. Your case is definitely similar to mine, and I do hope you can find a solution. Did I remember rightly that you have pelvic issues? Xxxx
